Who makes good alternators for the 5th gens? - Camaro5 Chevy Camaro Forum / Camaro ZL1, SS and V6 Forums

Have a blower car that only wants to charge at 13.1v or so WOT when it gets hot. Not a car audio application, but looking for quality alternator capable of outputting 14.5v-15v when its commanded to do so by the PCM

Well it shouldn't matter of it is a blower car of not. My cammed and stalled Camaro with the OEM alt charges at that rate, and so does my friends with ZL1's, and my buddy with a whippled up Camaro as well. Do you by chance have an underdrive pulley on it? That will change the charge rate. I just replaced mine 2 years ago, the original lasted 10 years!!

No of course doesnt matter if blower car, just giving background info. I didnt know if there are some that have higher amp/volt output

A true OEM alternator is hard to beat.

Aaahhhh , gotcha. Yea the OEM is a stout piece. I'm sure there are some higher output ones out there, but they will probably be a bit pricey. Just like the high TQ starters.

Not sure on the Camaro as mine is still good(knock on wood)

But my G8 V6 absolutely hated a rebuild the alt light came on and she would not charge.

I got a genuine GM from Rock Auto for $5.00 less shipped than the rebuild cost me sourced in Canada.

I say stick with the factory as the PCM now controls the output.

Consider reputable alternator brands like Powermaster, Mechman, and DC Power Engineering.

Some rebuilt alternators will not work with modern cars as the PCM now commands it to excite/charge.

Like I said in a previous post my V6 G8 would not charge with a rebuild I needed an OEM Alt.

The G8 is basically a Camaro with 4 doors made in Australia

I don't know what you mean by Plug&Play it's not a PC lol, and it is kinda.
I got my 300 amp from him, it's been in my SS for 2 years now.
Make sure you have a strong Battery with highest cranking amp.
get in contact with him he is a great guy and cheaper than all the name brands.

Maybe a stock alternator is good for me...I have Oracle headlight and foglight halo kit, led strip grill and a little sub (100W rms).

Yeah you wont need it for that, but maybe in the future when you decide 5000w rms with two 15" inverted Subs lol, as long as your lights don't flicker when you driving you be fine.
