Issues with HVAC Fan Speed Knob 2012 Camaro SS
I recently purchased a 2012 Camaro SS, absolutely loving the car so far but the fan speed knob for the ac and heater is really inconsistent. Sometimes it works just fine, other times it doesn’t work at all but typically it’s hit or miss and I end up having to continuously go back and forth to get it to a decent speed. It will even change on its own from time to time while driving. Anyone had this issue before? I thought about taking the knobs apart but after researching them I’m not sure if taking it apart to clean would do anything since everything is digital. It seems like the temperature portion works just fine as well, it’s only the fan speed knob. Any recommendations are appreciated! YouTube link for a video of the issue is below.

Sounds like the contacts are dirty, but I'm just guessing, other will chime in but, I would take the knob off and use some contact cleaner, leave the Car off.

I have tried pushing and pulling while rotating and it doesn't make a difference. I'm thinking its the contacts like you guys mentioned. I just ordered some replacement knobs that are returnable and plan to take it apart this weekend if they get here in time. Hopefully some contact cleaner will do the trick, if not I'm going to try the new knobs and see if that takes care of it. Will report back what I find and thank guys!

I have to add that I'll be surprised if there are any "contacts" that can be accessed to clean, but maybe.
It also could be the fan on it's way out. |

I will update you guys once I take it apart this weekend. Hopefully the "contacts" are accessible. I was looking into the PAC aftermarket stereo kit and it looks like you can reuse the original knobs on them so hopefully when I take it apart I will be able to clean them up to test. Worst case I will replace them and see if that solves the issue. I originally thought it may be the fan too but I am leaning towards the knob itself as the fan works just fine when the knob decides to change it to the correct speed.

Got a positive update for you all! I took out the infotainment system and got the knobs off today. At first glance it was obvious that the fan control contacts were much dirtier than the temperature control contacts. I assume this is due to the fan knob being used more often. Below are some pictures of them when I initially took the knobs off. I gave them a good clean with some contact cleaner and tested. It worked perfectly after that so I didn't need to replace anything. Honestly the hardest part of the entire process was putting the radio back in, its a pain getting everything lined up and getting the bottom portion of the mount back in place. Thank you guys again for the recommendations, I appreciate the help!

Awesome stuff bro!! Glad you got it fixed, and thanks for letting us know!! My only question is, did you really have to pull the entire head unit out to remove the knobs??
