Question Regarding Fuel Octane for Camaro: Need for Computer Reset?
Hey folks, I've got a query regarding the fuel for my Camaro. Whenever I use regular fuel, the engine starts pinging, so I have to opt for midgrade. Should I reset the computer? What's causing me to be unable to run the lower octane gas?

It would help to know year and trim level. If you have an early 5th gen SS read this

Why be so cheap?
There is an old English saying..."penny wise and pound foolish" Its probably about 4 bucks difference and trust me your going to need a lifetime of fill ups to cover replacing your engine if you cause damage and you can cause damage. My V6 G8 gets 91 and the owners manual recommends 89 The Camaro (V8) will run on 91 but we now have 93 Shell available here so thats what she drinks.

More info is needed on your Camaro's trim level as mentioned. The V6's run on 87 octane, ALL the V8's state in the owners manual to run PREMIUM fuel for best results!! They are designed to run on 91 or higher octane. It also states that in an EMERGENCY, if you cannot find premium fuel, you can run 87, but it is not recommended as it can/will cause engine damage from detonation issues. Know your car!

Yeah, giving the computer a reset might do the trick, but it wouldn't hurt to also take a look at your spark plugs and fuel injectors. They can sometimes cause issues like pinging if they're dirty or not working right.
