Courtesy Lights problem

I realize all I've done is ask ask ask, but I swear I'll answer some later tonight, lol.
Ok, I'm having an issue with the courtesy lights in that 2001 v6. They won't come on when you open the doors, or the hatch, and they won't come on when you remove the key from the ignition. The only way to turn them on is by way of the thumbwheel. And even then, you can't turn them off with the thumbwheel. After you turn them on, it takes like 10 minutes for them to turn off by themselves.
I looked in the owner's manual, and read how to program the settings for all that, so I did. It is currently set to Both ON, which means, Exit Lighting AND Delayed Illumination should be functioning. They are not...
I doubt very seriously that both door sensors, the hatch sensor, and the key sensor have all gone bad. So what in the hell is wrong here? BCM?

Correction, opening the hatch WILL activate the courtesy lights, but ONLY if you unlock it with the key, if you use the hatch release button up front, it will not. Also, when activated by the hatch door, they do not go off after the normal 5 seconds...or 5 minutes for that matter, I just pulled the fuse.

I may have answered my own question and found another at the same time...I read on another forum, that you can blow your BCM by putting a different fuse in the courtesy lights spot than what it calls for. When we got the car, I checked the fuses, and they were all messed up. I of course fixed all that, but I believe the previous owner in all of his glorious knowledge may have blown the BCM. I also read that if you get a new BCM, chances are it won't match the VATS chip in your key. Is that right? If so, what's a guy to do? How do I solve this issue...any one know?

Also, my AIR BAG light is on...does the BCM have anything to do with the Air Bags?
