Spark Plug Change

Hey everyone, just curious if anyone knows if there's a recommended time vs mileage interval for changing out spark plugs in their gen 5 camaro. I have a 2010 with just over 19k on the odometer. I know 19k is hardly enough miles to change plugs, but they're original factory plugs. Being that they are 14 years old, should they be changed regardless? Thoughts? I think I'm probably just looking for something to tinker with...lol

NGK or Denso Iridiums are your best choices unless you plan to run nitrous.

Make sure you put a bit of anti seize on the threads.

I learned something new today

It really won't hurt anything unless you slather it everywhere but it looks like it is no longer necessary.

" Should You Put Anti-Seize on Spark Plugs?

The safe answer is “no,” especially if you have pre-treated spark plugs.

Some spark plug manufacturers advise against using anti-seize because they produce pre-treated spark plugs. That means they’ve already been doused in anti-seize properties."

This is almost a, "when should I change my oil", question. Look, if you're pushing 70 years old or old school like me, change the MF-ers whenever you want. I was in a similar situation where my car was 9 years old with the factory plugs, but it only had 36,000 miles on at the time, but I changed them anyway.

No, I didn't need wheelie bars after and it didn't make a world of performance difference. But I felt better about it and if that's what you're after, I highly recommend it.

And by the way, NONE of them fought me on the way out. In fact, some were loose! I did not put any lube / anti seize at all on the new ones. Based mostly on advice here.

I change mine at 100,000 intervals. Just replaced them as I am approaching 300,000 miles. The set that I took out still looked fine. Buy new Plug Wires before you start replacing them. I haven't figured out how to remove them without destroying at least one or two of them. They like to stick to the Spark Plugs.

Hi! I have a 2014 SS and I’m at 70,600 miles. I don’t know if they are the original spark plugs but I ordered all 8 new 41-162 AC Delco Iridium plugs. Haynes stated they should be replaced at 72,000 miles while the owners manual states 165,000 miles. I am having a bipolar argument between, “if it ain’t broke……” and “an ounce of prevention……”
What are your thoughts?
