Help with vacuum lines
A while back, the engine belt on my camaro (L99 engine) had to be replaced because somehow, from what I understand, a vacuum hose got in the way and damaged the belt and also de hose was cut. My mechanic said it was fine to just take the hose from the vacuum out and just put a plug in the hole where it use to connect. i did that and have never noticed anything strange. but now i really wonder what was the function of that hose? I tried looking up the part, finding if it connected to something else to other hole in the engine but i cant find any information. i attached a picture so you see what I am talking about. the house used to connect to the hole im pointing at. does anyone know what it is and if I should fix this? or trust my mechanic? In the picture i took out the plug I normally have on it so dust doesnt get inside.

That looks like the vacuum port for your passenger side valve cover. It is all part of the PCV system in these cars. I don't remember the exact routing since I have a catch can installed, but I believe that one gets connected into your cold air intake tube. Stock CAI or not, there should be a provision or port for you to connect this back up properly. I am sure someone else will confirm proper routing.
Personally, I would find a way to get this reconnected. It should be a cheap fix with a visit to the parts store for some vacuum hose and maybe a barbed fitting, depending on if you are still running the stock air box or an aftermarket CAI.

InFiD3ViL is correct & here is a link to the part you need for a stock air box. I would not trust this mechanic.

As stated above, these guys are correct. That hose supplies fresh air into the crankcase for the PCV system. I would get it hooked back up. Easy fix.
