AFM Disabler
Scanned the posts on the AFM Disablers, and looking for a recommendation. As with any topic, there is a wide swath of opinions and experiences. I understand that they can drain the battery, and maybe the older versions can cause codes. Yeah - I know the whole delete & cam kit and a tune is the best way to go, but not for me at this point, as the car is a low mileage stock 2010 SS.
Also, I see them for sale with a wide range of prices - from $40 to $240! Seems like the RANGE Technology RA003 may be the way to go? Recommendations and experience? https://www.amazon.com/Range-Technol...6-580d6bb0ee10 |

FWIW, I've been using my Range device since I bought it in December of 2014. I haven't bothered to send it in for an update, since it's worked perfectly since day 1. I've only had two self generated issues... Once i plugged it in after starting the engine, which confused the car until I shut it off and restarted, and once I forgot to unplug it for a week or so, and it did drain the battery.
I would suggest that if you get one, get an extension for the OBD port with a switch on it. I've. been too lazy to get one so far (10 years and 37,000 miles). Just my experience.

Mine would throw codes. I bought it here from a previous owner. When it started taking the electric power steering out, I figured it was too dangerous to keep using. Just bite the bullet and get a tune. You'll NEVER look back.

Ok I have been told I need to delete the AFM before it causes engine damage. I have 61,000 and no issues so I wondered if it would be ok to just use a OBD device instead of getting a whole kit of top end parts and a professional tune. There isn't anyone in my area that does those and I don't have the money for it right now. I am hoping a device will be ok since I have not damage yet. I get horrible gas mileage like 14 give or take in town and only 20 0n highway. So how much will I lose gas mileage wise? I don't drive it hard and most on here say only about 1 mpg which is worth it to save the motor long term I think. What's the best device I have seen Range and Diablo as recomended by most? Is this correct and if so which model I see there are several ones for each. I read where one person said it drains his car battery because he forgets to unplug it, are there models that turn off and only run when the car is going? What features do I need in one? Also I have a lag or suge in acceleration some times when pressing on the gas in just normal driving. I thought this might be due to the AFM. If so I guess the device could help that problem? Thanks for any advice .

I used the Range device for quite a while with no issues. When I put a cam in the car I sold it to a customer with a AFM Silverado, He is still using it.

Looks like you've already done your research, but the best way is to tune the car. You'll be much happier having done so because your tuner will likely tune the transmission so it isn't so lazy. It will be a completely new car for you.

I'm in the process of having my 2019 Tahoe tuned so I'm no longer going to need the Range AFM disabler that I've been using. I'd like to sell it to someone on here who could use it until they're ready to make the jump for a tune.

I have one, never used. If you pay the shipping from South Korea and throw us a few beers you can have it
