Catch can

I have an elite engineering catch can. I recently
removed the lower portion to drain the oil and found
the filter part with the steel wool setting in the bottom of
the can. Is my can now defective and needs to be replaced
I have screwed it back in but just 3 days later it was out
again. Does anyone know what's going on with it.?

It should be in the top chamber of the can. I have an Evil Energy Catch can I installed last winter and that is where the steel wool placement should be. Is your top chamber broken or missing on the inside? Did you install this catch can yourself or did you purchase the car from someone with it already installed?

Just screw it back on. Mine did the same. After I tightened, so far so good.. Make sure it’s tight. You could give elite a call to see what they say. I would be interested.

Same happened to me with my Elite can; just tightened up again by hand holding a rag/paper towel. Could maybe try Teflon tape on the threads.

Tighten what? The can that holds the oil or the upper chamber that is supposed to hold the steel wool? The OP is stating that his steel wool has fallen into the bottom of the "oil can".

EE cans have a seperate chamber inside with holes in it that screws into the upper section of the can which holds the steel wool.

I see that... Is this a common issue with Elite Engineering catch cans?

Not that I have personally experienced, I had one on each of my 2002 Z06's and now the one I just installed on my Camaro (although I havent really put miles on this one)...
