What causes Roto-Fab filter to deform like this?

I just purchased a 2013 ZL1 and was going to clean the air filter until I realized it’s worse that I thought so now I’m debating to buy a new one instead but does anyone know what might have caused this filter to deform this way? I’m wondering if it was poorly installed and mis handled or if the supercharger can deform these. Thanks

The wrinkles aren't as much of a concern as the actual damage to the mesh. I would replace it.

Yeah, someone before you probably messed it up doing something with it to damage the mesh like that. As for the filter element looking a bit crinkled, all the K&N's I have had looked like that a little. I just installed it so that area doesn't show. Replace that one for sure.

The reason this happens is simple, being lazy when trying to install the filter. The washer fluid reservoir filler neck and main ground is effectively in the way when you try to fit up the filter to the intake. The way to properly install is to remove the hose clamps on the intake, disconnect the hose and back it out a bit first then move the filter into place and re-secure hose/hose clamps.

I've gone through many K&N filters on 2-strokes. They just don't hold up that well. A new one always looked like that after a few cleanings. Under a hood and on paved roads is much less abusive so I would guess that one is pretty old.

Get the non-oiled one and just replace it when needed
