which mufflers?

I have a 2011 SS 6 speed. As of now 100% stock. I'd like it just a bit louder without being too loud or raspy. I find if my cars are too loud I'm reluctant to get into it hard in town and attract too much attention.
Which mufflers are an easy swap to get a bit better flow and a bit more sound....but not too much..?..:-)

Honestly, I'd recommend rather than changing mufflers, get long tube headers, a CAI, and have it tuned. With stock mufflers on an M6 with headers, you'll find that it's not too loud until you really press it. Even then, someone running somethign like Borla Atak is gonna be louder. No drone either. I've been pretty happy with that, though I may swap mufflers and get louder eventually. And with this setup, you'll get an actual performance gain, where you won't get much of anything with just mufflers.

^^^ This is a great way to go, a bit more power and sound. Or if you are in a state with no emissions checks like some of us, do a cat delete, you will pick up some more sound, but no more performance. And stay away from Flowmaster mufflers, they drone like crazy. Ask me how I know..

Honestly, a muffler delete or cheap axleback with small mufflers, would be fine. Assuming you still plan on keeping your factory exhaust manifolds/headers, the stock H-pipe and resonators will do a mild amount of keeping the exhaust tamed down.

Or like someone said, you can just go straight to long tubes, although you’ll need a few extra parts for that job. Another alternative that’s not too common unless you’re in a strict emissions state, is to get shorty headers and maybe find some off-road down pipes/cat delete connection pipes.

With that said though, if you end up getting full-sized rear mufflers with fiberglass packing, I would just get the stock resonators and factory H-pipe removed. You can look up clips of the H vs X-pipe to compare the two distinctions. The H-pipe exhaust tone sounds more “clappy”, like a truck exhaust setup; while the X-pipe sounds more gnarlier and sportier, but somewhat raspier.

a muffler delete
I did the Muffler Delete with the MBRP Pipe Kit. Just right for me. Louder nice deep tone but not too loud at idle. And gives the nice popping sound when you let off the gas at speed.

^^^He's right.

You may be tempted, as some of the Flowmasters really do sound amazing, but they almost all drone something fierce.

lol, thanks sir! But yeah, my Flowmaster American Thunder ZL1 catback DID sound good, but man o man the drone as InFiD3ViL said was mind bogglingly disgusting for sure!!! After about 2 hours of cruising, you would have a severe headache!! And all their chambered mufflers are that way. I had a set of Dynomax's on their that weren't too bad before the Flowmaster catback.

Mufflers? What are those?

As others have said, if you're looking for a little performance advantage, go with long tube headers and a tune. That will create the biggest advantage for you. It will get louder sounds and increased performance.

If you're not interested in getting the car tuned and just want to change the exhaust, check out Solo Performance. They have a couple of Canadian locations and can help install it for you if you're near them. For a manual exhaust you would be best with an axle back setup. They are a muffler delete, but have J pipes to kill off any drone that you might experience with just a pure muffler delete.

Yeah, Solo is definitely something I would consider if I was doing this from scratch again. They sound great, have drone removing technologies, and best of all, their prices aren't as insane as most of the other aftermarket exhaust companies are.

I went a different route than most. stainless works long tubes with cats & NPP mufflers.
For me it is absolutely perfect. Semi quiet with the valves closed with zero drone. Very rowdy with valves open, but still very little drone. With this system you have a choice, loud or quiet. Of course, this system is a little pricy, but to me was well worth it.

LS3 M6 stock... If so cut the mufflers off and replace mufflers with straight pipes. Cheap and easy for more sound.
