Upgrading to a 2012+ Tremec TR-6060?
I have a 2010 2SS manual coupe, with the factory bone stock Tremec TR-6060 trans. It supposedly has the weaker, defective main output shaft, as well as the initial brass synchronizers and blocking rings, before they were upgraded/revised for all 2012+ V8 manual models, I believe.
My question is if I can just simply toss in a 2012 or 2013-2025 6MT from any manual SS, and be done with it? I can’t remember when exactly the parts revision was done, but if I want to maybe avoid the guesswork, I can just aim for a 2013-2015 manual trans instead. I figured if I built the 2010 SS manual trans, that could be an option too; as I don’t have every piece of equipment and machinery that I might need, in order to DIY the trans swap from my living space/garage. I’d have to account for labor and maybe a new clutch and flywheel, probably main rear seal, if I just bought a used trans and paid for a swap to be done. Oh, and I recalled there being some additional output shaft tail bearing(?) that was on other TR-6060’s, that could also be added? Last edited by TheBrightSide; 03-04-2025 at 08:06 PM. |

Here is a link to a TR6060 rebuild from the Corvette Forum. I think the biggest tool requirement is the bearing splitter.
https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...d-rebuild.html Rockland Standard Gear used to sell the kit to add the bearing, and I think others may have gotten it from Liberty. Here is a thread I did about it years ago. https://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=394512

I still wanted to know if whether the main output shaft OEM part number, would be the revised one (GM P/N# 19260477). I put it into Rockauto as a 2015 Camaro SS manual, for example, and found that OEM part as the only supplier available. I figured that since only the 2010’s (and maybe some 2011 year models?) had the supposed weaker/defective main output shaft, that it would be beneficial to replace it with a better, revised part? I figured it could go along with the tail shaft support bearing. |

Check into Tick Performance they have a good rebuild program for the trans and several upgrades for it they even have billet shift forks..

I've broken a ZL1 axle and twisted a driveshaft in half. My trans is definitely not the weak link.
