Tire question
Had a valve stem leak at the last TNIA, didn't get to do the last session but drove it home. Local tire place (chain store) wouldn't replace the valve stem because the tire doesn't have enough tread on the outside and was obviously looking worn. I've done 4 to 5 TNIA on these tires but usually only do 1 or 2 laps of the last session because of getting low on gas. I don't think the tire looks that bad and was hoping to get a few more events on them. What do you guys think? I know someone else will repair the valve stem.

In looking at that tire, I'm thinking yeah, they might be about done. You probably won't get much more out of them in looking at the one side, it's pretty well done. If you just need the stem replaced, it shouldn't matter how it is worn, a tire shop should do it anyway because you still have some life left in them. Find a different shop.

They have a little life left in them, but some shops don't like to touch used tires. I don't get to drive the toys as much as I like so the track tires age out before they wear out. I saw a tool (probably on Youtube) that allowed you to put new valve stems in without breaking the bead. I was thinking about using it for a mud tire on the truck but never got around to it.

Those tires are in great shape and your tire shop is on drugs.
Find another place and don't go back there. |

Tire shop just needs to do as told now if they make you sign a waiver for it plus all you want is a leaky valve stem. An this is the for sale forum you can use the Technical Forum to get answers.

Thanks everyone, that is what I thought but wanted to make sure. I had a mobile tire guy try to replace it but he was concerned about scratching the rim. Going to look for another shop.
