Solved Driveability Issue Codes 301,556,557 Long Read

All the above and intermittent stabilatrak lights.

Long story short code P0556 so I replace the brake booster sensor and grommet.

Well I now get P0556 and P0557 and stabilatrak the brakes work fine

Then I get the flashing check engine light and its a misfire coil 301

Change coil with Cylinder 3 and clear codes then I get misfire cylinder 1 after it goes into closed loop plus it surges and lopes.

Change plugs and wires still fubarred

Light bulb goes on and I buy a new MAF and O2's figuring it is unmetered air or contaminated O2's even though I was not getting those codes.

Nope still got the issue and now it is down shifting hard when I brake

Clean body grounds new battery last year and charging good with great voltage.

Still got the issue

I swap my ECM with one I bought online and it says the crank position senor not aligned or something and the car wouldn't crank but the codes I had previously show up

This thing is killing me

Time for a pro

He spends some time comes back and shows me a sheet of codes...no shit Einstein that is why I brought it to you

He says it is probably the ECM which is why I handed him that in the first place and explained everything right up front.

He does a compression test on bank 1 and they all come back good so its not the DOD/AFM(whew)

Clears the codes goes for a short drive and declares it fixed with the new ECM

He only charge me one hour of labour

Half way home yesterday 301 and 557 are back along with the stabilatrak lights

Ok now I need to put on big boy pants and get to the bottom of this on this wonderful Saturday morning.

After a a good nights sleep and 2 cups of coffee the light bulb comes on again

I am getting a match and burning it to the ground

No that is not the way I do things

Took it for a drive got it in closed loop

Spray some TB cleaner on the booster grommet and all around the intake ok everything is fine WTF

The match and gas are moving back to the front of my mind

But wait there is a about a foot of fuel line from the nipple on the CAI to the PCV...could it be?

Yup it had a crack in it so I duck taped it up RED Green style and cleared the codes and drove to the parts store and guess what?

PROBLEM SOLVED!!! NO CODES !!

So I bought a foot of 3/8 line and installed it.

The car runs like a raped ape again and $4.00 of 3/8 fuel line fixed it

I just got back from an hour drive up the Niagara River Parkway and I am so happy and relieved

Thanks but no I will not rub it in,my neighbor admired my perseverance and had the same thought

I don't want want to gloat or bring on bad karma

I go there regularly for oil changes, tires ect.

He was sure it was electrical or ECM and that was what I was thinking too.

But the the problem seemed to worsen in closed loop so that changed my way of looking at it.

Don't need to make it negative, but it surely could help the next person that has a similar issue, if I was your mechanic I'd want to know what fixed it and possibly save my next customer a lot of time money and headaches plus maybe keep from getting a negative review for something that turned out to be a cheap easy fix.

Your right and I was thinking about bringing it up the next time I am there.

That is why I posted this thread in case someone else has a similar issue.
