Temps feel insane???

219F on the highway at 80mph

It's Phoenix too, so it's around 118 in the afternoon, feels like my car shouldn't be this hot? Cammed, long tubes, Vararam ram-air intake, Mishimoto aluminum rad, mishimoto oil cooler and separate transmission cooler. Running the car with the heat on to vent more out of the engine compartment.

I really don't know what is going on. Is that temp anywhere near normal for cammed cars driving more than 20 minutes on the highway?

What temp stat are you running? When we have those "heat index" days here in Florida over 100 mine stays at around 180-185 cruising at 75.. I have a Summit Racing 160 in my Camaro..

What thermostat is in your car?

My oil temp will go high (like 220ish) if im getting on my car continually because my turbos are oil fed.

Coolant temp though is around 185ish.

Are both your fans working. One of my fans likes to melt connectors so I put a 60amp connector on it. It is right next to the downpipe.

Turbo car with 160 stat runs 180-190. Vert with stock stat will run 200-210. Neither had aftermarket oil coolers or trans coolers and that is in town, not highway. I do run SuperCool in the turbo car and the tune turns on the fans sooner. It does help.

Running a 160 thermostat that I put in a couple years back, and both fans are running just fine, even got them tuned to turn on earlier. I really have no clue why this thing is as hot as it is

Need to confirm coolant level of course. How long since the radiator install? Could be air trapped in the coolant system. But 118 is up there and I don't think the heat index has the same effect on cars as people.

Something is definitely up. Check coolant as stated. No reason it should be that hot especially with a 160 thermostat and that Mishimtoto radiator. Maybe the thermostat went bad and isn't opening?

May also be worth making sure your coolant temp sensor is working properly.

Yeah i think I'd being shooting it with a temp gun to confirm that's a correct reading.

Been about 5 years since the install, the pressure on it seems fine, I had a head gasket problem fixed up last year and it hasnt been driven more than 10k miles since

That's kind of worrying to hear, but it does make the most sense, I'll have to get it into a garage or something to look at it.

I'll do that as well, the temp does worry hell out of me.

160 does help but eventually the heat will catch up to it, If this temp issue just started I would be looking into the head gasket issue, Have coolant checked for presence of Hydrocarbons, and oil checked for coolant. Doesn't take much of a leak to affect cooling system. Of course check to make sure thermostat and rest of cooling system is working properly as well.

Exactly this for me and also in Florida temps. I almost never get to 200º. The thermostat and retune for the earlier fan activation is what did it for me. You can't just do the thermostat. You must have the tune updated with a new fan activation profile.

Edit: Just read that you already did all of this. Next thing I would do would be to re-burp the system for air pockets. These cars can be very difficult to get the air out of the cooling system.

And another thing to check I forgot about, what brand t stat are you using? I see you have a Mishimoto rad, are you using their 160 t stat? If so, myself and another member on here have had failures with the Mishimoto 160 t stats, andwe both went to the Summit one with good results..

Refilled the reservoir since it was running a bit dry, but even with that it hasn't changed much. Most I can gather is that the ambient temps just make the whole thing soar up for some reason. I fear transmission issues, but I recently had the fluid serviced some 200 miles ago and at the shop I trust with my life, they didn't find any burnt fluid at all. I may have to upgrade the trans cooler.

I will try that again

I'm not sure what t-stat I have for the car, I will look into Summit though, thanks for looking out!
