MPH Down at Last HPDE Event

In past HPDE events at Pocono Raceway I consistently get in the mid 140's in the long section but on Wednesday I could barely get into the low130's.

Made sure the supercharger coolant was topped off before I left. It was a hot humid day and can't recall if I have ever been there when it was this hot/humid. All other aspects of the car seem normal (sound, temps, etc.).

Does the heat/humidity slow our cars down this much? The coolant system for the supercharger is stock, read too many conflicting opinions on this subject but would welcome info from someone who has actual data after upgrading the heat exchanger and adding a reservoir.

Thanks!

You probably need to be monitoring IAT temps to see if it's pulling timing due to the heat.

I tried connecting a Bluetooth OBDII that syncs with TrackAddict and it works most of the time but sometimes it really screwed up the main CPU and I have to disconnect the battery. Happened at Pocono last year and I missed two sessions because I couldn't figure out how to correct it. One the instructors had a high end OBDII tool that reset everything.

You might want to try something like an UltraGauge. I've never had mine cause any problems. https://ultra-gauge.com/ultragauge/index.htm

Or maybe go ahead and get HP Tuners.

Thanks, I will look into them.

Yes it will. I watch all the NHRA events on TV and all the teams are always talking about the weather where they racing at, especially the heat and humidity, as it will cause the supercharged, even the pro stock cars engines either make more power, when it is cooler and drier, or make less when it is hot and humid, and they always have to "tune" for what's going on weather wise. Way back when I had my supercharged Mustang, in the humid summers here in Florida it would not run as good as it did in the cooler/drier fall and winter months, and as gt said, you might be seeing higher IAT temps, and it is pulling timing and reducing the power some.

Mine gets so bad I don’t even enjoy it above 85 degree as with the IAT, s deep in the 100’s, it like driving a boat. I think I calculated once that it was pulling so much timing it might have been representative of 30%. Sure is fun at 60 degrees though right..

i live in louisiana, and i just got mine tuned and on the dyno it needed 6 fans + the hood open just to keep the temps down to get accurate readings. during road testing to make sure everything was working as intended i did a SINGLE pull and IAT2 temps went from ~120 to over 250, lucky i didnt break anything lol. btw thats with a reinforced intercooling brick, 1/2" insulation plates, afco heat exchanger, 160* thermostat + the oem cooling system. however the blower is currently making 13psi which is a major part of those temps

Always check the water grains in the humidity index before racing . Will give you an idea of the performance your going to be dishing out

Yep that too. More boost, more heat as the blower is working harder..
