Newbie Post... CAI Intake Installed... WOW!

Newbie post here... (second attempt... in wrong sub-forum first time)...

Recently bought "new to me" 2013 Camaro 2SS/1LE. Absolutely loving it. It is stock except for an aftermarket clutch (was told RPS twin disc w/ aluminum flywheel).

Installed a CAI (Cold Air Inductions) last night and just wanted to share that I was blown away during my test drive this morning! I really noticed "seat of the pants" harder pull above 3k RPM and absolutely loved the intake noise at full throttle.

I am an engineer, and only offer that to say I am REALLY picky and notice details (my poor wife). I was personally very impressed with quality and thoughtful design of the CAI setup.

Just wanted to share! Below are some pics of the install...

Add the JRE or Phastek air scoop to that CAI and I think you'll be even happier.

Yep. I have that. You'll want windshield washer relocate to make it complete and most effective. Rotofab has one. Maybe others. I did all three pieces and like it.

Or just skip the bottle relocate. Never in a situation where I needed it.

I tried the rotofab relocate kit that went next to air box, it didn't fit right now matter what I tried and it put pressure bon the CAI and lid wouldn't fit right. I ended up just leaving it off as I never use it anyway.

Didn’t the air scoop trigger lean CEL codes for people that were untuned? I guess it works so well, that you end up introducing way more air than what the stock tune is made for. Kinda goes to show you how much aftermarket “cold” air intakes do…. (Spoiler alert: They don’t do much!).

The engine bay is cramped sorta, and the intake positioning can’t really get a whole lot of fresh air routed straight to the air box, or whatever open air element you’re running. I was actually even surprised at how well the air scoop worked, but never got around to installing it myself, as I live in CA and tend to flash back to my base factory tune map, for emissions/smog testing.

I’ve ran the K&N and Airaid modular intake tubes, to the stock airbox, with a “high flow” air filter for ages. Sometimes when I take out the high flow air filter to wash and dry (or re-oil if needed; ex: K&N), I have spare paper filters that I run. Sometimes, I forget to reinstall the high flow air filter, but the change is so negligible, that I truly forget, or am lazy and just leave it lol. The next 40k+ miles or so, I run the paper filter and then just toss the re-usable high flow one back in. Haha

Might just be for folks who like to live on the edge, or maybe have tools and stuff handy to clean..? I sometimes daily drive my Camaro, and I use my windshield washer fluid quite a bit. I actually buy decent wipers, that last long and are good for all-season use.

Nothing like needing washer fluid and actual, good-working wiper blades when you get something on your windshield while driving, and God forbid, can’t see! Like, even for racing, I believe some tracks tell you not to use it if you have windshield wiper fluid. But unless you’re attempting to shave off all the extra weight of the washer fluid and fluid motor itself, it’s not even worth removing IMO.

Thanks mlee!

One reason i went with CAI is my car was a rebuilt title, front end accident. New hood, bumper, fender. Hood doesn't align perfectly with fender or bumper, so I was worried the Rotofab might not seal tight. Really enjoying the CAI. More upgrades hopefully soon.

Interesting! I like that "litmus test" that if a mod doesn't require a tune, maybe it isn't super aggressive? I had read the CAI didn't need a tune, but with the scooop and a tune... sounds like maybe another boost on the "butt dyno"? Hmmm... got me thinking.
