stainless long tube headers v6
Is anybody running the stainless works headers (v6) with 1-5/8"" primaries and 2.5" slip? Experiences? Any notable power gains? What about CELs? Any input is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Marc

Just recieved a reply from Stainless Works for those very questions that I had asked them yesterday.Their claim is that the stock V-6 they used to develop the headers, did not throw a code even when tested on the dyno.He did go on to say every car is different and you may or may not have an issue.A classic case of the definite maybe. But I'm going to buy them anyway.

Being electronically unevolved I have no idea what "LTSFT pid" is but why would it take that long to light up the CEL ?

Yes... it's the Long Term Fuel trim from the rear O2 sensors... it doesn't cause the computer to adjust things like the front O2 sensors but it keeps track of what it think it should adjust... it's a percentage and will slowly go up... at 54% it will throw a code... that's the quick and easy explanation... there may be other reasons involved also..

Im happy with mine.
Took a day or two to throw the code. No biggie. Noticable gains and deeper sounds. Smoked tires in first and second gear the first time i drove it after i installed them

Oh I am getting the tune soon enough... dont get me wrong.
Ironically enough... today, I had 3 cylinders misfiring. Damn near killed the car from moving. Onstar diag pulled it from the improper catalyct readout (the code thrown by the long tubes from my impression). It caused the cylinders to start misfiring. Dealer was not too happy abuot that. They didn't void my warranty however... They definately said if they told thier corporate, it would void powertrain. Nothing I didn't know already. So I guess a question is in order: Feasible the ECM was just confused from the readings and tripped the misfirings? The service techs couldn't find anything else wrong... or damaged.

I have 19,000 miles on my Stainless Works headers and cats. Picked it up from SW and a few hundred miles later, check engine light came on.
No other problems than that. You can do a search for dyno. Oh, after that Jannetty thread on headers, might want to look at the 1 3/4 tubes. I have the 1 5/8". |

im still trying to figure out why i was getting cylinder misfires. both onstar and gm techs said the exact codes were "out of calibrated O2 readings from the catalycs" causing it. i think im biting the bullet on dropping cash to tune it this week. dealer actually works with a retired gm tech that tunes caddys and camaros.

I've had it reset. Don't think it will stay off until Spring gets here. Looks like a temp. thing. Looked at the odometer,19,300 miles on the headers, cats now.
