Does K&N intake require a tune?

Hey everyone, I want to do some performance mods to the Camaro, and I was thinking of a cold air intake. Now.. from what I understand, some intakes do not require a tune to function properly. So, what I need to know is if this intake needs a tune K & N Air Intake.

Thanks

depends. Honestly that isn't what you wanted to hear, but I've seen it go both ways with the K&N Kit. A couple of guy's had to get tunes and others did not. All 4 cars were bone stock when they got the intake done for K&N testing.

If no tune is one of your main wishes, here is a good one to look at:

http://www.halltechsystems.com/product_p/yj440.htm

I know they do a lot of work to make sure the MAF reads right and doesn't set codes and lights.

I had a Halltech intake on a Corvette and it worked great, will probably be getting one soon for my SS.

So do you recommend I get it? And what happened to those guys whose car needed a tune, did they get like a check engine light?

Is this the link for the Camaro one Camaro CAI ? And also, is there any installation guides available for this? Is it hard to install?

I haven't heard one way or the other on the K&N, I know for a fact that the Halltech doesn't require one. I have one and love it. Easy install and noticeable gains. Call Jim at the shop to see if they have any in stock.

Yes that is it. The Camaro Yellow Jacket. Looks like a very easy install.
The stuff I have bought for Corvettes from them has always been top notch, they pay attention to the details and make sure it works.

I'm interested in a cai, i hope there are a lot of replies to this K&N. It's time for a decision on which one to get, there are already enough out there. Hoping to add a ZEX nitrous as well to compliment the cai.

I wouldn't think you need a tune for a cold air intake. You could probably advance the timing anyways though...
