new GM Toyota trade in program -- does not apply to Camaro!

so I got my weekly e-mail from GM and it has a new deal they are offering where you get an extra $1,000 or cheap financing if you trade in a 1999 or newer Toyota (which I do own) and this might be enough to tip the scales to buy one now instead of waiting to see the new 2011 Mustang and then decide . . . so I have a nice little on-line chat to check, because this isn't the first incentive program I've found does not apply to the Camaro . . .

but NOOOOOO! "I'm sorry sir, that program does not apply to that vehicle" . . . I told her "oh well, Ford has a similar program without that limitation . . . ."

I guess the Camaro is still selling so hot that they still don't think they need any incentives or promotions; but they are building up on the lots around here like crazy . . . we'll see what happens when the warm weather comes.

Personally I think they are making a big mistake -- big opportunity here to convert a lot of Toyota owners, and show them that a GM car can be both high quality and fun, whereas the Toyota is high quality (some questioning that now) but not fun.

So anyway, if anyone else was thinking "cool incentive, now's the time to trade in my Toyota for a Camaro" you can skip it (or do it anyway, but the special offer isn't going to help)

And what price was that dealer selling for - MSRP?

Find another dealer.

I believe GM's line of thinking with this deal is that most Toyota drivers don't want something sporty, they need something practical that they can drive the kids around in (as all current Toyota's are not performance oriented). Just my educated guess there.

Actuall it was someone at GM who told me the Toyota deal doesn't apply to the Camaro, I can only hope they made a mistake?

About finding another dealer . . . I think I already did . . . he isn't exactly local, but a great guy to deal with . . .

most of the dealers around here are still trying for MSRP or close to it . . . they make a big deal out of supplier pricing ("well OK this month only because it's the end of the year but if you don't do it RIGHT NOW next month will be different . . .") and never heard of USAA, etc.

still it would be nice if the loyalty program and/or this new Toyota/Lexus program applied to the Camaro . . . that's what I get for wanting the hottest new vehicle they've got!

USAA is a bonus $750 incentive for signing up with them. GM Preferred price (previously called supplier) is the norm around here.... and don't feel too penalized, that's all the discount GM employee's get too effective 1/5/2010

As far as I know, there aren't any incentives out for Camaro as of yet.

There is a big incentive for Camaro over Toyota . . . the gas pedal works on the Camaro without killing you! Safety is a big incentive for me! Better than cash!

But, they make great beaters. My Tercel saves my Camaro from the daily I5 experience.

Actually, you can get $1,000 off Camaro purchase if you (or someone in your household) owns or leases a Pontiac or Saturn. A THOUSAND BUCKS!!

(cannot be combined with the USAA $750 discount)

Isn't that a beautiful thing!?!?

I had a customer that was allowed to use around $2800 on a Camaro! It always pays to CHECK! Don't ever assume that your GM card is limited to the amount they say the limit is. Have your dealer actually get online and type your card number in with the actual VIN. There are sometimes specials out there and you can get a BONUS!

I guess the Camaro is selling well enough right now without incentives. After all it is a business to make money. Once the sales slow down it will be included as well.
