Snow Tires
I live in the Chicagoland area and I have a 2SS/RS M6. I know I am going to get a lot of criticism on this but I am going to use it as my daily driver. I ordered a set of blizzak snow tires and cheap rims to use for the winter.
Well, the tires arrived today but I was unable to go and pick them up. I still drove my Camaro to work even though we had a crazy snow storm in the area. On my way home I got stuck on a very slight incline and was having an extremely difficult time keeping traction even 500 feet from my workplace. I went straight back to work and a co-worker gave me a ride home (don't worry it is in a garage). My question is... do snow tires really make that much of a difference or am I going to experience the same problem when I put the snow tires on my car. Thanks! |

snow tires plus weight in the trunk really helps! my camaro is in the middle of its 3rd snow storm (in NJ go figure)...and with the blizzaks alone, it would be pretty difficult. but i put about 100 pounds in the trunk (2 50 pound bags of quikcrete wrapped tightly in some bags of course) and in my opinion, its a beast. but its all about throttle input and being extremely cautious as you'd normally be in snowy conditions.

I live in Chicago too and I'm using my 2SSRS as my daily driver. YESureyBob the Blizzaks make a HUGE difference. I put on the LM60's 255/45/20 in all 4 corners and they totally grip and claw in the ice and snow. I launch and stop better than some fwd vehicles in the thick snow and ice. Trust me you made a great investment and you will love your Camaro more driving in the snow. GM did a fantastic job on the traction control. You will be surprised and I think this is a well best kept secret for this vehicle w/snow tires.
You shouldn't worry about driving your Camaro in the winter.... It's just a fun car you can enjoy all year round. Unlike other garaged Camaro owners this car is meant to be beat up on IMO it's not an exotic car its a freakin Camaro. I'm sure you will will trade in your car for something better in the near future... enjoy it |

What rims did you get for your snow tires?

Snow tires will make a huge difference. I drove to work yesterday after our 30"+ snow storm, the neighborhood roads and side roads are still packed snow, loose snow, ruts, ice, you name it. I was just fine. A neighbor has a charger with summer tires and he has gotten stuck at least five times in the past three days in spots that a car has no business being stuck. I got the Scorpion Ice and Snow tires. Love em, no regrets getting them.

Do you have weight in the back (ie sandbags)? The rims I bought where black OZ (19"). I found them on tire rack for a pretty good price and then I bought the Blizzaks from a family member who owns a tire shop. |

No weight in the back except for wrk gear. I only put wts in back if i'm going to drive down the hwy.
Did great today in parallel parking in-and-out where the snowplows redirect the snow to the side streets. Drove around last night and no problems |

Thanks. I heard that some people have issues using 19 (or even some 20) inch wheels on the SSs, since the Bembro brakes may not have enough clearance. |

Without wintertires it's undriveable.
I have 18" wheels on my SS and they are awesome. I had no trouble un unplowed roads with 6" of snow. Great fun! The only problem fitting 18" wheels is the weights they put on some 2SS front pads. See pics! (I guess you can always cut them off)
