Connecting to cat back from headers?
Being I havent got the car yet and tinkered with it I am still not 100% positive on what I need to complete the exhaust. I have a good idea but just need to confirm.
I will not be doing headers yet but just want to know some info for future reference. I have the flowmaster 3 inch cat-back kit on order. From the looks of it, it comes down to a 2.5 inch diameter to connect to the factory cats. Now...if I order some headers I do not need an x-pipe I am assuming. I would just need it to come with a 3 x 2.5 inch catted or non catted connection pipe and I would be all set correct? So say I ordered the ARM short kit with non catted connection pipes this should bolt up to the flowmaster cat back and I should be ready to go? in the product description it says they will bolt up to factory h-pipe...so therefor it should bolt up to the flowmaster I would assume. Do you lose any power because of the slight step down in the connection pipe? would it be worth it to buy the x-pipe included system in the future to keep it a smooth 3 inch and avoid the small step down connection area? I dont think it would be much but was just wondering if anyone had any input on this. thanks Last edited by ULTRAZLS1; 02-17-2010 at 01:37 PM. |

i'd order long tube headers w/ high flow cats before i'd buy an exhaust. headers will make ur exhaust louder and the 3" Flowmaster or whatever might be too loud for ya with headers.
but if you do ur exhaust 1st, just get long tube headers w/ the cats. Kooks and ARH are built to bolt right up to ur stock system or pretty much any cat back system. no x-pipe needed (ARH offers it) unless ur gonna go axle back. i know Kooks offers a long tube header w/ cats and a complete 3" cat back to tips for around $2200.

I have heard this sytem with no cats and headers on 2 different H/C cars and I loved it. I also think it has one of the best sounds when stock, it also has a great price, so I went with it.
I dont mind loud. I had nothing but dynomax bullets and no cats on my 98 H/C car. But yeah I would do headers first except for one problem....I am scared of the voided warranty. My current financial situation doesnt give me the freedom to just replace a transmission or motor on this car if it were to go bad. I definitely need the warranty right now. |
