Any scuba divers here?

Just wondering. I'm going to Maui and Bonaire in about a month and was hoping to find other divers on here who have been there.

Yes, I'm certified SCUBA diver. and yes I've done Maui. Did a couple of dives there. On the southwest coast (south of kihei) there is a really cool turtle cleaning station (they call it) Turtles come in there to have there parasite cleaned off by the various small fish. Its part of a nice reef there. You can get really close up with them. (within arms reach). I didn't get to dive Molokini Island. But, I heard that is a fantastic site. Did a couple of other dives on the western coast near Lahaina . While diving we actually got to see a small group of whales in the distance. That was thrilling and we could hear the sounds they make too. Also I did a night dive near Kannapali. Freak'in awesome. Octopus, Lobsters, an eel, various other critters. I highly recommend it... Have fun!
If you feel daring, take a drive on the nothern road from kaanapali to kahului. But be careful. The road whines in and out of costal revenes along the cliffs. Beautiful drive.
p.s. You will need a lykra or a wet suit. Water is cold there compared to the caribbean.
I've done a lot of diving in the caribbean. Key West, Bahamas, Jamaica, Caymen Islands, Roatan Hondurus, Belize, Cozumel, Cancun. Also did a week long live aboard sailing around the Caribbean. 3 different dives everyday, and everyday a different location. I even did a shark feeding dive. That was really cool. Again have fun...

I was in Maui two years ago, and Oahu three years ago. I did the snorkeling bit off Molokini, and Lahaina. We were able to swim with the dolphins. Of course I did not know it was illegal to touch the turtles, so I did. It was cool.
I also snorkled off of big beach. That was pretty cool as well. I always push myself to go down and stay down as long as I can. Went over the cliff to little beach as well. I reserved myself to body surfing on that beach. The views are awesome! If you get a chance go to little beach.

Either way, when you get there you will be amazed with the dive spots. Hopefully you have an underwater camera case. Have fun!

I've only been to Maui but was certified there. Deepest I've gone is about 90 feet, and that was in the caribbean.

SSOOCH, it's not illegal to touch them if they jus swim by you, it illegal to treat them like your camaro or to grab on and ride them for a bit.

I have dived off blackrock, turtle bay, molokini and the shore dive from the Embassy Suites (about 10 minutes north of blackrock/lahaina) on Maui. All are great spots.

In the Caribbean, Aruba has quite a few natural and manmade dive spots, but I have never been to bonaire, I'm sure it's the same. St Lucia has one of my favorite spots to dive at Anse Chastenet, just north of the pitons.

Have fun and good luck!

Sweet! Thanks for the info. I've also been to Roatan. Stayed at Fantasy Island. Awesome diving there.

Nice. I can't imagine going two years without a dive. The longest I've gone was 10 months and that was only because I got hit by a car. lol

Just got back to Portland from Maui. Did one dive at Airport Beach and the surf was really high so the entry and exit sucked. We also did Molikini which was good but as we were kitting up for the St. Anthony dive a whale surfaced right next to our dive boat. It was so fricken cool.

On a side note Maui Dive Shop sucks ass. Ed Robinson's Diving Adventures rocks! And I saw a sweet IOM Maro parked at the Safeway in Lahaina on several days oft trip.

Off to Bonaire tomorrow!

I have logged over 200 Dives around Maui and the Big Island. Best dive ever was the back side of Molikini Island in between Maui and Kahoolawe.
