A6 transmission oil change

I tried to use the search engine, but came up with nothing on this topic. How difficult is it to drain and fill the transmission oil on the A6 SS?

best done on a hoist, car needs to be level, and you need to fill it from the bottom, i use a vacu-fill unit, make sure you get gm dexron6 fluid

-remove the pan like any atf fluid change, replace your filter, and re-install pan
-remove the filler plug on the right side of the trans case and add a few quarts of dex6 fluid
-start engine and allow trans to get up to running temp, monitor with scan tool till fluid temp is between 86-122°F
-Depress the brake pedal and move the shift lever through each gear range. Pause for at least 3 seconds in each range. Move the shift lever back to PARK
-remove the plug on the bottom of the trans pan
-keep filling the trans till fluid starts to run out of the hole on the bottom of the trans pan
-re-install trans pan plug
-re-install trans fill plug on right side of case

the plug on the bottom of the pan is not a drain plug, this is the fill level plug, it has a tube connected on the inside of the pan, so when the fluid level gets to the correct level it will spill over this tube and run out the plug hole, this is when you know the trans is full.

Is there any other way to fill the transmission besides using the vacu-fill?

you could pick up a suction gun from the parts store and put a small hose on the end.

it is very hard to fill with the factory exhaust,, long tube headers and cats give you much more room to fill the trans

Sounds like a great excuse to ad mods! ................... "But honey, I needed to swap out the exhaust system to make it easier to change the tranny fluid."
