Heard this today

After cleaning up my car today, I went to gas it up and saw real nice restored 67 Camaro parked by me gassing up also. After I threw a couple of "nice cars' at him he said, "Yea I like yours too, I was going to buy one, till I found out they build them in Canada" I said "yep, that's where it's built" and another "nice car" and went on my way. Maybe he just got done watching the USA-Canada hockey game. I don't know?

My 4th gen was built in Canada. Not sure about the 3rd gen's. Seems like they know how to get it done. Don't fix it if it aint broke.

Honestly, with the track record that the plant has, there is NO WHERE ELSE I'd rather have it built!

Like Donna, I LOVE my Canadian built Camaro!!!

I guess that he's old fashioned. They don't call it American Muscle for no reason. So I guess I could see where he's coming from, since it's built in Canada it's not really American muscle? Kinda a dumb reason since GM's still in the US. Oh well, his loss. I wouldn't trade my baby in for anything, even if it was made in Canada. The location of the plant doesn't bother me at all.

Wanna know how to ruin German engineering? Assemble it in mexico. This was years before I discovered edmunds.com and all their customer reviews. In the first year that I owned that car, it was in the shop 7 times. One of those times was for an engine coil recall.

Anyway, 2 years after I bought the BRAND NEW Jetta, I was getting rid of it. It died on me and the service tech had the audacity to tell me that the battery and electrical system were 'unrelated.' (And this was after the tow truck driver said he towed about 6 a day.) After I traded out of the car, I went onto edmunds.com to check out the reviews that I "should" have looked at prior to the purchase.

In the "suggested improvements" section there were things such as:

"No drinking on the assembly line."
"Stop making them in mexico."
"Trade yours in before the warranty expires."

I'll take a car assembled in Canada ANY day before I'll take one from mexico again.

To this day, you can go to edmunds.com, type in 2002 Jetta and read horrible reviews from people who bought my model used thinking they were getting a good deal on good car. They are still griping up a storm.
that all sounds like engineering issues and not assembly issues.

Canada = Mexico

If Canada = Mexico = USA, then i can agree with that. I don't think anyone builds better quality.

BUT one of those helps the economy, the other two don't.

My two gen 4's were Canadian. My gen three was from Anaheim CA. The government's laws on CAFE forced gm and Ford to build the V-8 cars in Canada so that they would be classified as Imports. Another good idea from the politicians gone awry.

Yah, those comments really piss me off. I am very proud to be Canadian, (even more since last night), I am very happy this car is made here. GM is still a US company. Lots of design and testing was done in the US. Parts come from all over the world. I still think of the Camaro as an American car, that just happens to be built in Canada. I am happy to have helped the Canadian and Ontario economy by buying "Canadian". If it was built in America then that would be great too! I have a 96 Silverado that was built in the US and runs awesome, very happy with it. To be honest, if the Camaro was assembled in Mexico I never would have bought one. Nothing is more damaging to both our countries than having a big plant close and move to Mexico, my wife is a victim of that!
