I have put a car computer in every car I have ever owned starting with a 133mhz computer in my Ford Explorer like 10 years ago. I have looked at the dual-din aftermarket kit (Metra) and I really don't like it because it reminds me of a mid-90s Toyota dash but I still want to put my car computer in.

I have (or will have when it gets delivered) a 2010 Chevy Camaro 1SS Manual. I'm looking to put a 7" touchscreen SOMEWHERE within arms reach. I was thinking about making a custom mount (fiberglass it in) where the 4 extra gauges would go if I had the 2SS (behind the shifter). Anyone have any better ideas? Has anyone else done something without removing/modifying the factory radio? Is there plans for another dash kit that is different from the Metra one?

Do you need your cupholders? Maybe you could make some sort of custom fabricated enclosure to replace the cupholders and put your screen in it? Just an idea.

I'm thinking along the lines of modifying the dash trim piece to the right of the instrument cluster. I think it would be easy to put a mount there and hide it with the trim piece and not tear the dash up. Or take that trim piece off and fiberglass a a housing off of it to mold on top of the dash then it would be mountable and removable with the trim, plus you could fit a couple monitors across that dash.

I won't have the car for another week or two, but I was trying to get ideas early. I use the GPS constantly for my job and I hate windshield mounted "portable" ones.

Would you be able to take a stock image and use MSPaint (or something) to show me what you were thinking?
