Buffing out a scratched MS rim your self?
Is there a way to buff out scratches on a MS rim yourself?
These are a couple of thin scratches on each spoke and you can feel them when you run your finger over them...

Have the wheel repaired by the people who mounted the tire. It was their equipment that caused the damage.

Yeah man, if the wheel was damaged when they mounted it, make them pay for it. LIke stated above, if you can feel the scratches with your fingernail, it can't be buffed. Wheel repair around here for something like that is only about $80.

You could take your wheel to a body shop and get an estimate on how much to paint it, then go back to the tire place that mounted and scratched them and show them the cost.

I wish that I could say for sure that some one did this by mounting them but the only place that touched the tire was Discount Tires when I took my car there about 2 months ago because a screw was in a tire. The screw penetrated the tire soo little that they didn't even have to do anything with the tire....
I am sure I would have noticed this if they did it plus the front tire on the same side has a chip missing on the edge of the rim. Makes me think I may have caused the damage on a curb even though I can count on one hand how many times I have parked by a curb and have been very careful when I did.... |

For future reference guys & gals - if you get new tires mounted on your rims, make sure they use a "touchless" tire mounting system and check them immediately! Last edited by mj2112; 03-16-2010 at 11:07 AM. |
