Is the V6 auto tranny limited?

Similar to the V8 auto? I heard today, that although the V6's limiter isn't as drastic, where it shutsdown pistons. But there is a limiter that has been installed by GM.

My question is if a tranny tune is done on the V6 Auto tranny, will that end up damaging the powertrain?

They all have Speed limiters built in to the engine controls, it has nothing to do with the transmission. The limit is set to correspond to the factory tire speed rating..
A transmission tune will just change your shiftpoints and how hard and quickly it shifts. I would assume just as with an engine tune this could void your 100K powertrain warranty on your transmission...

Yea I figure that when it comes to warranty. I also knew about the speed limiter, I have the 20s, so I am not worried about that. Its just I hadn't heard of AFM being installed in the V6 from the factory.

Think you are talking about a couple of different things...

Active Fuel Management is where the computer will shut down cylinders when they are needed so save fuel... This is only on the SS automatics.

There is also the Torque Management system which reduces power during shifts.. I can watch my timing drop from +30 degrees to like -8 degrees on the shift. Vince at Trifecta has started looking at tuning that out... I've only had him do one revision on my tranny tune so far... timing still drops but goes to +3 degrees... so still some room for improvement there.. also, he has firmed up my shifts....

And then of course there are the speed limiters which is different between RS and non-RS model.. something like 155 MPH for RS version and 115 MPH for non-RS..
