77880 got Zainoed today, my experience and pics!

Well everyone raves about Zaino. I just had to try it. Overall, I am impressed. I got some Z2, Z5, Z6, ZXF, a few applicator pads and blond border free towels. I had a few spots where the undercoating the dealer applied was sprayed up a bit too high and on the underside of the hood. I got some Turtle Wax Bug and Tar remover and it worked excellent for that. Then I washed the car with Meguiars Gold Class. Dried with Microfibre towels I got from Costco. I pre-washed these towels and did the CD scratch test, of which they passed. I very lightly sprayed one section at a time and wiped the whole car with Z6. I was very impressed with how this worked. To be honest, the car is still new enough I could have gotten away with just using that, it was great. I did Z5 on the whole car and wheels. I mixed in some ZFX in the little bottles, more on that later... The Z5 dried up nicely in about 45 mins. I buffed it off and did the nose of the car again. I did the Z5 right over the vinyl stripes, they turned out great! I did the second full coat on the car with Z2. I let it sit probably for about 1.5 hours while I cleaned the door jams, interior and windows. Then I buffed it out too. Total time was about 4 1/2 hours, I got a lot done. I did have a few issues, but overall my first time with Zaino was very positive. I tried very hard to use as little as possible. It is very hard with a yellow car to see where you have applied and missed. It was also very hard to tell when the pad was out of product. I really had to use the sun at the right angle to see the polish getting applied, that was a pain. I would expect that with any brand though. The only thing I really didn't like was the ZFX. The instructions on back say you can't leave a mixture in the small bottles for more than 12 hours or the polish is ruined and the bottle is garbage too. I wanted to make a full batch and just use what I used today and use the rest on other occasions. I found a lot of polish was wasted because it would stick to the sides of the little bottles and so you have to mix more that what you need to be able to get it out. I made some mixed ZFX and Z2 during the last coat that ran out 1/2 way. I felt I used enough for a whole car and I wasn't going to make more so for the rest I just used straight Z2 and it seemed to buff out just fine. I had to use a bit more elbow grease, but not bad. Again, I had to use the sun and the right angle to see it properly. My car isn't garaged, so now the test of time starts. I had fun doing it, but I actually got sun burnt today! Happy St Patty's day!

Looks great!!!! I have used Zaino since around 97 and love it. Also the longer you leave it on the better it looks I have actually left the polish on all night before and took it off the next day. I have used the ZFX in the bottle and used it again without any issues. Im not saying that the container is wrong just stating that I have done it and really didnt see any difference. Also the Z6 works great after you get done polishing the car. Spray it on a microfiber towel and wipe a section down and take another microfiber towel and wipe it clean. Do in small sections so the Z6 doesnt dry and it will make the car pop. It also helps to get some of the extra polish that might be on the car off of it. Overall great job and great pics!!!!

My pleasure HeavyD...I'm glad you're happy with the results. Your Camaro looks great!

Going forward, additional applications of Zaino will be easier. I find that one cars where I use Zaino for the first time, the prep work and application and removal of the first coat is the hardest. (not that its really difficult to use in the first place.)

As for the 2oz. bottles mixed with ZFX, I almost always fill them only half way, which is more than enough to do an entire car. After you've used the bottle, I wash mine out with a drop of Dawn and water, shake vigorously, and them use a sheet of papertowel, twisted into a "quetip" shape, to clean.

Also, when using ZFX and either Z2 or Z5, add 4 drops of ZFX to 1 oz. of polish, shake vigorously, and then with a dampened applicator, apply.

You did a great job and your car reflects the results.

Let me know if I can ever help you further!

Ed

Cool, thanks again. I tried to do the most homework I could before I started. I knew using as little as possible was the key to success. From the Zaino website and that video on Youtube, (with the copper Corvette), they say one 8oz bottle will do 20 to 30 coats. When I started using the ZFX I knew something wasn't adding up. If you mix 1oz of Z2 or 5 with a few drops of ZFX then you only get about 8 uses out of a bottle. Am I right? That seems like a lot of waste. One bottle of Z2 and Z5 should last a whole year at least. Seems a bit expensive once you add it all up. Still happy with it!
