Cam install questions
I've got my car torn down almost all the way for my cam install, and was wondering about the AC belt.
Is there a certain way to get it off, or does it just come off when you pull the crank pulley?? Also putting new valvesprings in, and need to know the torque specs on the rockers!! Any help on this will be greatly apprciated!! |

Cut the belt off, and buy a new one.. It's the easiest way.
You most likely end up tearing the old one up trying to get it off. Rocker arms are torqued to 22 ft. lbs. Hope this helps you out.. Daniel

When I bought my new belt from GM, they included the tool for install.

price that belt before you cut!!!! i seem to remember it is outrageous. the easiest way i have found and done before, it takes a little time but remove front ac compressor bolts fully and then slowly loosen rear ones to relieve tension. install in reverse fashion. either way get a price on that belt trust me

yeah it is almost impossible to get the belt off without dropping the engine (which I did) and you can fight the a/c lines and bend the a/c enough to pry it off and then back on...Good luck if you are going to fight the A/c without dropping the engine, you will problally have to loosen the ac lines that run under the balancer that are attached on the frame rail for any chance of movement.

When I picked my car up the belt slipped off the same day. I noticed I had no AC and when I popped the hood to show someone the engine we saw the belt dancing around. I took it to the dealer right away and they printed up the tech info that said it needed to be cut and replaced with a new belt. There is no tensioner so they are a one shot deal.

just use a small pry bar while you rotate the engine over with a ratchet,, i have had mine on and off several times with no issues
also snap-on/blue point make a tool for this but i havent seen the need yet since it is very easy to remove and install without a special tool
