Blue Smoke

I have a 2010 2SS Automatic with L-99 engine with 1000 miles on it, this week i started the car and blue smoke puffed out the back, as i pulled out i got half way on the car to pull into traffic and more blue smoke came out, has not happened since then. should i bring back to the dealer, anybody else have this issue? I have been babying the car since i got it and have not really driven it hard.

on a side note im also getting a lot of vibration and low speed and very light gas pedal, is that normal and part of the variable valve timing using only 4 cyl., i notice the vibration goes away if i speed up.

Thanks,
Charlie

The dealer told me it's "normal". It's caused by AFM. I've since taken matters into my own hands and tuned AFM out and this problem went away. Since you have potential powertrain issues. I can't recommend that you do the same since applying a tune could void your powertrain warranty. Using tap shift helps to mask the problem since you can keep your RPMs up. Of course that will cause you to get less MPG which was the point of AFM in the first place.

Good luck.

Working with computers I saw "blue smoke" and thought this was headed somewhere else entirely.

On topic. After having sat for, say a day or so, sometimes even overnight, it's not unusual to see small puffs of "smoke".

If it's SMOKING...there is a problem. If it's just a few little puffs...I wouldn't worry. Definitely think twice before modding until you get a solid answer from someone who sees it.

Blue smoke is caused by the engine burning oil. If it's that much of a worry to you buy a catch can but burning a little is normal seeing how the engines are designed. You can check V8 section for more info as there are dozens on threads on catch cans but basically oil gets into the intake and gets burned causing the blue smoke.

so the car only sat for 1 hour in a lot, when i came back out and started it puffed lots of blue smoke, then right after i pulled out onto a busy street and had to give it some gas due to oncoming traffic and it smoked again, clearing up by the tie i got to 40 or 50 mph. the second time i had the blue puff car was at my house overnight. Im gonna bring it back to dealer this week, i have the advantage of not filling out the survey yet.

Is there any hang out spot on Long Island NY for meetups or local clubs?

My car smokes a lot when it is cold outside or when it idles for a long time, but this is not blue smoke, it is white smoke from condensation. All car used to do this before catalytic converters. Are you sure it was blue smoke? It maybe normal condensation smoke.

ok went to the dealer today, it was 100% blue smoke by the way, they wouldn't take the car in without an appointment, the CS manager didnt seem to show much care about my issue. I'm very upset about this. The general manager wasn't there so he will get an ear full next time i go there ( friday). i told them to at least to check the oil and it was 1/2 quart low, which to me is significant considering oil is the blood of a motor, surely if one of us was bleeding we wouldnt want to wait 3 days to stop it.the car has only 1200 miles and 1 month old. more to come on friday.

1/2 quart low for an engine that is still being broken in isn't bad at all.
