Test drive and now two questions

So I was test driving a new Camaro lately: Black 2SS/RS, inferno-orange interior and stripes. I really like the looks of the car, absolutely awesome. It felt pretty good driving it.
I have two Camaros here that I’m interested to buy:
First one is an early production car with 6-speed manual w/o parkassist
Second one is a newer one with parkassist and the automatic trans
The rest is almost identical I think.
Now are there any pros and cons for one or the other production wise?

And if I would go for the automatic car: can the shift paddles moved to the same side? (I want both on the left because I have no right hand)

Sorry about the hand, but if you have no right handthen wouldnt you have no choice but to go automatic and stick to automatic driving and not use paddles? Im guessing as the need for paddles on one side is there then you cant really use a stick either..

Ide go with auto in your position..

Oh wow....umm...definitely go with Auto. GM is so far refusing to make a right hand car because it is not cost effective.

Good luck with the car!

Do you have a prosthetic hand or device that will allow you to shift the manual? If so get the manual if you want the fun of shifting.

I think you would need to have a custom steering wheel made to have both shift paddles on one side and I am sure this would be expensive. If you get the auto I think you would be stuck with just leaving it in auto mode and it sounds to me like it is important to you to be able to shift it. I hope this helps.

i agree with Top Thrill, think it would have to e a custom job and would probably be costly.

Anything is possible once you have executed the skills of driving a manual with/without a prosthetic hand. BTW, Sorry about the hand. If you are up for the manual - I don’t see why not. Have you tried driving a manual before? They are fun cars to drive especially the M6.

P.S. At my job we now have new hybrid diesel trucks that don’t have shifters for the tranny and with a touch of a finger is all that is needed. The shifting panel is located on the dashboard close to the steering wheel. It’s very cool and I will take a picture to show.

Thanks for the replies.
I was born like that, so I'm pretty much used to it ;-)
Actually I'm driving a 4th Gen Z28 with the manual transmission so no problem with shifting.
I think I only will get the automatic if there is a possibility to relocate the right paddle to the left side.

About the other question: are there other interesting features on the newer production cars beside the park assistant feature?

It’s hard to say anything about the 2011 features right now. I tried talking to many GM sources and they have no clue or can’t say for policy reasons. I’m hoping to hear something about it on the car show this coming April.

There is no parking assist feature. I think what you are seeing is the rear sensors that let you know you are getting close to something in the rear. It sounds off a beeping noise inside the car and the closer you get to an object. The beeping gets faster as you get closer to the object until it becomes a solid beep.

With the limited rear visibility I personal am very happy to have them on my car.

The backup sensors are the only added feature between the early and later production numbers. On the early production cars they had the GM chicklets at the bottom of the fender and the "Performance Division" plaque under the hood. Both of those are cosmetic things.

If it were me,I would call GM Customer Service and explain your situation. They have the Mobility/customization for handicapped drivers. Just throwing that out for food for thought. If you can't find a link or # to call I would be more than happy to help locate the info for you.

It would be quite the mod, but I don't see any reason tap-shift couldn't be moved to the left side. It's all electronic and I would think that the right kind of buttons shouldn't be that hard to find. I would guess buttons would be the easiest due to space considerations on the wheel, but you may be able to find a suitable momentary rocker switch that would have a more sporty feel.

Like posted above, be sure to check with GM on this, they may have something already made for this. If not, they should be able to find out what the switch requirements would be.
