JBL Subwoofer Install
Over the weekend I installed a sub and amp. I wanted to just 'fill in' the missing low tones of the stock system. Yes, going with a 12" sub is overkill, but the price was right...
I purchased a box kit which came with the enclosure, sub and 300 watt amplifier. Following some instructions on the site there, I tapped into the low level rear wires with an rca cable for my pre-outs. Very, very easy. I also wanted a sub that I could completely remove if needed quickly. This is why I didn't want to go with a ******** type enclosure as I sometimes may need my entire trunk space back. I simply used a couple hinges with wing nuts that I can undo, unhook the wires in the front (capping with some wire nuts) and pull the amp/sub out. I can accomplish this task in about 2 minutes. Also, I installed the sub level control knob that came with the sub inside the center console (by the usb port). I forgot to take a picture of it however. To adjust, I put the bass control knob all the way to minimum, then just brought it up until the lows that were missing filled in nicely (probably about 1/20th ‘open’). I will admit however, the other day I broke out an old EazyE cd and was shaking the neighbor’s windows! (high school days came out of me!). Being a 36 year old man I felt a little 'odd' installing a sub, but wow does the stock Boston stereo now sound amazing. Sweet! I agree the stock BA system sounds much better with some bass.
