Dumb Cruise Control Question

Ok, I admit I am not a gear head. If you say to mod a car I think of the best shops to go to. I know where the oil and gas go and I can change a tire. Feel free to mock, laugh and point at me now.

Ok, now that thats done, Just how does the standard cruise control work on a manual transmission? My Camaro is on order and my wife asked me today if it had cruise control and I said it did. I am a "gotta drive a stick" crowd guy. So, when she thinks up the follow-up question I have to be able to answer her.. How does it work!

Put more laughing in here...

Not sure what kind of technical answer you're looking for but when I drive my manual SS, cruise control works just like any other car.

Once you're in the gear you want, turn on cruise control, set the speed, and that's it. If you press the brake pedal the cruise control turns off. I haven't shifted gears while cruise control was on but I would imagine it would turn off as soon as you changed gears.

Yes it turns off when you press the clutch....

Turns off when you hit the button, press the brake or press the clutch. I don't know about the Camaro, but other sticks with cruise I have owned, if you pull the shifter out of gear without using the clutch, and the cruise on, the cruise control will rev the engine up in an effort to maintain the speed.

So what happens when you push in the clutch on the F-18 when cruise control is engaged??

I was actually wondering to the same thing but was too scared to ask. On my BMW, the cruise will stay on when the clutch is pressed and you can shift to whatever gear you want. You don't need to touch the gas pedal. I've done this many times shifting between 5th and 6th gears on the highway. I guess the new Camaro will not allow you to do this.

I wonder why the hell anyone would do that anyway?

But if you must, thats one way to fool the cruise control.

I see nothing to laugh at. We all started somewhere and your taking the better path. Some spew an answer without regard as to the correctness of it. You-re confirming your answer before hand.

It's nice that your wife is interested in the car too. You may have to buy two.

Thanks for your Service!
