road and brake dust issues

what is everyone doing about dust behind there wheels i cant drive 50 miles without my black car looking gray. my car is not a daily driver so its very clean other than the dust build up that develops behind each wheel from driving. the dust is to much for a cali duster but i hate to wash the car when just behind the damn wheels is my problem and the rest of the car looks great, im not sure really what to do im a firm believer in not touching your paint anymore than i have to but im not suer what to do here any suggestions. te only thing i could think of was having 2 cali dusters one for the lower half and one for the upper half of the car. damn the freaking brake dust

Performance tires and brakes make alot of dust.

I have been using Meguiar's Wheel Detail Spray on the wheels every other day or so. It works fantastic when you start with clean wheels and are only maintaining them to get mostly loose dirt off. Once I'm out, I'll probably just use my Last Touch detail spray diluted 1:1 which is basically just a waterless wash spray at that rate.

If I have driven quite a bit but I am not quite ready to wash the whole car, I'll use a bucket and soap and clean to the back edge of the wheels with a mitt. If you are careful, you can do this without getting the whole car wet and just use a detail spray to clean up the fenders from the water spray.

Keep a small sprayer of detail spray or waterless wash and a couple of MF on you at all times. I have a 4oz of each + a 4oz glass cleaner in my truck at all times for just this reason.

Also, if you apply basic waxes to most of your paint try using a pure synthetic, very durable, sealant on the lower panels. The shine characteristics of synthetics tend to be less beautiful than say carnuba paste waxes, but they protect better and last longer, especially when exposed to harsh conditions. The aesthetics won't matter much on the lower panels anyways... applying high durability sealants like our Machine Superwax to the lower panels will make cleanup easier and protect them better when you are forced to do those on the fly cleanups.

Also, upgrading your brakes to a ceramic pad will cut dusting down almost to zero. I had this problem too with my TBSS, so I upgraded the rotors to R1 Concepts drilled/slotted and the pads to Posi-quiet ceramics... literally almost no brake dust after that.

I've fallen for the ceramic pad scam a few times with other vehicles. Although the brake dust is less, they destroyed more rotors than I can count. I'm not going down that road anymore. The dust means the brakes are doing their job properly, wearing the pad, not something else.

when i'm washing,i use the "ez detail brush",it does a fantastic job.it gets in between the brakes and all the tight places.when i am not washing,i just use a rag and wipe it down.

Really? I had posi-quiet pads for a while and never saw any detrimental wear on my rotors. What brand of pad were you using? Stock rotors? Just curious b/c I'd never heard that before.

I guess I'll just keep wiping mine down with Mequires Detail spray when I get back from driving. I use this on the car, its great, then I just use the same microcloth to wipe the wheels off. It is a PITA but, she sure looks great ALL THE TIME!

I would dust it or wipe it. I let it get dirty and then power wash it when it bothers me followed up by a blow dry with a leaf blower.
