I am ready to drop the hammer on a Barton short throw shifter. Can someone who installed one answer this question.I want the flat stick,but the boot on the console seems to have a round chrome ring on it, does this have to be removed or modified to get the thicker (flat stick) shifter through it?

Not sure what chrome ring you are talking about....if you are referring to the chrome ring is part of the stock shifter. Once you pull it (knob) off and remove the boot from the stock shifter - no more chrome ring. The Flat Stick will no doubt have a method for the top boot install such as a ring. The boot is attached by a zip tie in both the stock and aftermarket shifters.

The chrome ring on the stock shifter is removed when you install the new shifter. It is attached to the leather boot with a Zip tie. Bartons shifter has a grove machined into it for the boot to attach to with a new zip tie supplied in there kit.

Just do it !

The Flat stick is a great Mod and a huge improvement over the stock shifter. When installing just take your time with the dust boot underneath. Most vibration problems are due to this being installed incorrectly.
