RPI Designs Side Vent Insert (Gill) installed

I ordered RPI Design's side vent inserts about a week ago and they showed up today. I got part number CAMT65 in the flat black option ($18.95 + free shipping).

Installation was a breeze. I had some left over solution from the last Body Guardz I had for my phone (just a soapy water mixture). I just sprayed down the area of the car I was going to install at and peeled the gill insert stickers (one at a time of course) off their installation stickers and put them on. Getting them straight was a bit time consuming, but not difficult.

I then let them 'dry' for a few minutes then gently ran my finger down each sticker to get the remaining solution out. It's now sitting in the sun baking. Here are some pics:

Hmmm

I like it. I think it blends some black in an area that needed something more than yellow. Now just get the molded mudflaps so the rocks don't chip the gills. I'm so happy I did that to mine right away.

Yeah, really 'filled' in the back. Yes, I also have to get the mudflaps asap. I'm also having some clear bra put back there as well (not over the gills, but below and behind them).

They look great. I want to get them for my Aqua
Blue 2SS. Could you give me a little more detail on the soap and water solution, installation and set up time.

If you just fill a small squirt bottle with water and add a few drops of dish soap to it you will be good. Obviously make sure the area of installation is clean, then spray down the gills. Peel the sticker off the backing and also peel the 'front' sticker off (will make sense once you get them). They are long and skinny, be careful not to let them bend over and stick onto themselves. Also, when you are taking the sticker off the facing, do it slowly. Otherwise you will stretch your sticker and ruin it.

After you spray down the gill just apply the sticker. I also sprayed down my hands so the stickers wouldn’t stick to my skin. Since you are installing on top of the soap/water solution you can very easily slide it around or peel it back off the car for replacement. On a couple of mine I had to peel the sticker back off because it was too low. I peeled it off and squirted down the gill again before my next try. Once you have it in the correct place, just let it sit there for a few minutes before you start 'pressing' them on. You'd hate to accidently move one that is perfectly placed... The solution will quickly evaporate from below the sticker.

If you use lots of solution you just almost can’t mess it up!

Good luck!!

Thanks. You won't regret it. I think it really 'fills in' the all yellow hips and provides a nice subtle contrast.

Sorry, I missed the set up time question. Not long at all. I let them sit there for a few minutes after I was happy with the placement. Then, I lightly ran my finger over each one to push out the solution underneath. That's pretty much it. Any remaining solution quickly evaporates...

Is there any problem with installing a clear bra over them?

Thanks for the info. I ordered them last week and just got them in. I was hesitant to try it myself, but after reading your post, I'll give it a go. Did you have to clean the gill area with anything special before applying?
