Bleeding Brakes

Can someone who has the service manuals tell me if there is anything "special" about bleeding the brakes on an ss, like tools needed that are outside the norm.

no special tools needed. couple wrenches and allen wrench and go for it. you can open the bleeders and let them bleed out by gravity if you wish. takes longer but works fine. i used a vaccum pump to do mine as it was quick and painless.

Since the SS uses Brembo 4 piston calipers, there are two bleeder screws on each caliper.

Per Brembo, start with the inboard bleeder, then do the outboard bleeder of each caliper in order to remove all air from the system.

Is there a bleeder for the anti-lock valve?

Nope. If you get air that far in you will need a Tech2 to open and close the ABS valves while bleeding.

After changing the calipers you just need to start bleeding them from the inside bleeder screw on the right rear caliper first, then the outside bleeder then do the same to the left rear ,next to the right front next, then to the left front(drivers side of car being left).
The best way is to have some one in the car with the key off to push the brake peddle to the floor softly while you have 1 bleeder screw open at a time. When your helper gets the peddle to the floor close the bleeder then have them release the peddle and repeat until both bleeders on all four calipers are bleed.Don't open the abs system or pump the peddel as this can cause problems with air in the sysyem. Then you will need a tech 2 to auto bleed the system. This is the best way we have found if you don't have a vacumn bleeder.Gravity bleeding will also work ,but some times will still leave a little air.DON'T let the master cylinder run out of fluid.

They don't bleed much fluid once the soft line is disconnected. Take the rubber cap from the caliper bleeder valve and pop it on the hard line to stop it from draining while you swap the lines. Make sure you rap the calipers with a soft mallet when you are bleeding to knock and air bubble free in the caliper.

I think I have it covered... 35 years as an aircraft mechanic and being a former AMA Pro rider.... was just wondering if the valve had a bleeder. Thanks for the advice though... good stuff!
