1 7/8 vs. 1 3/4 LT Headers
I'm having a problem decidine between 1 7/8 and the 1 3/4 LT headers. Does anyone have dyno sheets with the same setup in the car, only changing the size of the headers? Please no "I know a guy who knows a guy" stories. I want to see actual proof. I just have a hard time believing that an 1/8 of an inch warrants the $300-$400 dealers are charging. Show me proof and then I'll believe. Also, I'm sure the size of the cam will make a difference. Will putting a bigger cam make that much of a difference?

Here's a great test on header sizes from the same manufacturer done recently by a respected tuner on this site: http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showth...ght=ted+header
Yes, cam will definitely make a big change. For that, here's a good article: http://www.gmhightechperformance.com...son/index.html Most of those are pretty radical cams for street driving, though it all depends on your reference. Your best bet is to call 2-3 tuners you see on this site, tell them your current configuration, your goals, what you're willing to spend, etc. and they'll help you work up a configuration including cam that'll get you there. It's all about what you want and what you're willing to spend and that pretty well defines the final configuration.

Whether it's worth it or not totally depends on two things:
1) What are your plans for the car? 2) What is your budget for carrying out those plans? Last edited by Apex Motorsports; 04-03-2010 at 03:00 PM. |

Jannetty showed that the biggest LT's available right now, 2in, showed the most gains. This was throughout the entire bandwidth. The price difference is totally what your budget can afford.

The 1 7/8s will work perfect for you, now and if you add a cam. I have 1 7/8s ARH on mine and it runs and sounds incredible.

I just went through reading and asking tons of questions about headers. Get the 1 7/8! I just ordered my Kooks 1 7/8" LT catted headers a week ago.

Just some food for thought.... I just ran a 10.99 @ 125 in my L99 and I have the Kooks 1 3/4 headers. The car was also built by Jannetty Racing. So any choice you make will be a good one. Gd Luck!
