Am I ready?
I'm 18 an worked up enough money and made allot of money on the bank stocks to buy my very own 2ss. My dad wants me to keep the money an leave the bank stocks because the ss will tank in value over the next couple years. but i'd love to drive a camaro and my parents are paying for college and I will continue to work.
Your thoughts? Should I sick it out an in 2-3 years I might have my own z06

From the POV of another 18 year old, I would wait.
I managed to get lucky, through scholarships I'm going to college almost free (woot!), so my parents are buying mine. I have to pay for gas, maintenance and all of that fun stuff, but I also plan on leaving it at home for my first two years of school. I would never risk taking it on campus with me, not until I need it at least. My parents will be able to jack around with it, and I know my dad, who is the ultimate car freak, will care for it like his second son. So, like I said, I would hold off. You never know what could happen, something could come up and kill your finances, or that money could need to go somewhere else, you never know. Besides, isn't a v8 a little much?

You are in a GREAT position right now, don't lose it. A lot of us here could say "if I only knew then..." I believe in learning your own lesson, but at least you're asking.
IMO SAVE IT, go to college, finish and get a job THEN you will have WAY more money and you can buy whatever you want and support it. You can have a Camaro and a lot of extra money for lots of stuff you will want to start your life with. You will still only be 22-23 years old, a decent amuount smarter about life, and hopefully more mature.

You'll be much better off finishing school, getting a good job, and buying a house first. Then worry about a car later. In the long run the house is going to serve you well and the Camaro will go down in value. In a few years from now you can pick up a 2010 for a good price with reasonable miles and probably a lot of mods already done to it the way you want.
I know it's hard to hear but like others have said....listen a little to your parents. Learn from their mistakes/experiences. You'll be better off in the long run.

Dude I'm 19, free college, and got a camaro. Best decision I ever made.
Get your camaro. No reason to be driving a Z06 when you're 20... You'll get yourself killed. Camaro is a lot safer than a corvette, and it can be just as fast. Get a camaro. |

Go to college, get a good job, buy a house, then you will be able to buy many sweet cars throughout your life. If you buy one now, you will be setting yourself up to be in a difficult financial position your whole life. I've seen this many times.

school first.... continue to save and buy yourself one for a graduation present. It will be worth the wait and you'll be glad you did...
stay focused on school for now... that will affect you for the rest of your life. |

I'm in the same boat as you, except for I didn't have quite as much money (I got a great deal on a base mustang gt with the 3.73 axle ratio, nothing else). My tip would be don't sell all of the stocks, try to keep those for they will really be useful the older you get. Go with a slightly higher payment and still have money in the bank, so long as you can afford it....I'd also check out the 1ss to save a couple of grand, but that's just me.

Get a v8 while you still can. The way this country is going, in a few years there will be no V8s around.

Don't save your money too long or you'll have kids and a wife who will steal it! (I dont yet) |

one more thing of note.... I rarely drove while in college and my son is a student at SDSU and has a Mustang. He hardly ever drives.... The "cost per use" for the vehicle while in college will be pretty high.
