Replacing the trunk light?

Has anyone replaced their trunk light? I am trying to replace mine with a blue LED that I got but I'm not sure how to do it. I am able to get the housing out but since the light is automatically on when the trunk is open I don't know what to do. The bulb is plugged into an odd looking metal connector and I assume it just pulls straight out but the metal housing makes it really hard to get ahold of the bulb (especially with the light on because damn that thing gets hot). I was able to do the interior dome light and the license plate lights without any problems. Any help is greatly appreciated!

UNplug it from connector let it cool. BE careful popping out housing. Mine broke the tabs as soon as I touched it. Got a free one from my dealer to replace it.

I just did this about 15 minutes ago. If you take a small flathead you can pry off the plastic cover to the light. At this point you can see that the bulb is in a metal housing and its on. Making it freaking hot. You do not need to unplug it from the harness. This way is much easier. Close your trunk and go into the cabin. I put down the rear seats and crawled on my back into the trunk. Used a flashlight to see of course. Take the small flathead you have and use it to push out the light. Pop in your new one and you're done.

I think after a few minutes the light goes out automatically. No need to crawl into the trunk from the rear seat.

Ummm you can just pop the plastic housing out of the trunk lid area and then unplug it.

Pull the bulb and flip it around. If you touch any of the metal it shorts it and you gotta flip the bulb
