Gears

Alright guys, I want to change out my stock gears for something like 3.73s.

Any recommended manufacturers?

Does anyone know how hard the process is, is it an easier swap or one of the more difficult ones? Time?

Thanks!

this is deff not a do it your self job unless you have experience setting up the gears
the only 2 manufactures that i know of that have gears available are lingenfelter and richmond
we use richmond
if you want i can get you a price on parts i would love to do the whole job for ya but seeing as far away as i am its not very practical but i can get you a good deal on the parts

Richmond makes a set now.

Go with 4.10 though. Search the threads you'll see that everyone is really liking that gear.

Also....be prepared for some sticker shock. You'll be looking at around $1,400 to have someone buy them and put them in. You'll probably want to change out your rear end bushings while you're there because most of the labor on that is going to be to get the rear end out.

Keep researching.

Is there a point in replacing the bushings?

It supposed to get ride of a bunch of wheel hop. I'll have to see if I can find the treads for you. Or....go search in the suspension section. That's where most of this stuff is located.

Changing the gearing will create wheel hop? I upgraded some suspension stuff already and have no wheel hop whatsoever right now.

I have a G8, so it's not exactly the same as your Camaro. Your tires are a bit taller.

I have a 3.70 diff in my car now and I love it. If I were you, I'd look at 3.90s.

+1 for 4.10's

I know that seems like a lot of gear but keep in mind that you'll still get around 35mph in first and 125mph in 4th. In my opinion that is perfect. The stock tires are 28" tall and eat up more gear than you'd think. Just my .02

Unless you are running a lot taller tire than you are now, you won't get anywhere near to 35mph in 1st with an A6 and 4.10s.

My car is shifting at 20mph (approx 6300rpm) on the 1-2 at WOT with a 26.7" tire and 3.70s.

I was wrong about the first gear top speed in my previous post. It is actually 46 mph at 6200 rpm in first with the M6, RS wheels and 4.10's. The auto does have a lower first (higher numerically) though but I am not sure of the ratios.

Good point that wouldn't agree with 4.10's
