Tire Pressure Issues
Hi guys,
I have a problem with my new Camaro. I have a 1LT, with Stock 18inch wheels. The problem is, every 3-4 days, the tire pressure goes down 4 kPa, i think its like 2 psi? Is that normal? I'm concerned. All 4 tires lose pressure at the same rate. The tire on the Steering wheel side is always the lowest in pressure. I have pumped my tires back to the Required pressure, but it drops again every 3-4 days. If this is normal then, phew... but otherwise, anyone have this problem? Should i just call my dealer and get it checked out? Thanks in advance. |

are you always checking under same conditions? Your tire pressure will always be significantly higher when they heat up while driving versus when cooled down parked for an extended period. It is not normal to need air every few days

My car was doing the same thing. I took it to the dealer and their tire technician worked on it. I'm not quite sure what he did (not gas) but I haven't had a problem for @ 4 months. I just got a notice that my pressure was low but the weather's changin so...

I keep checking the tire pressures around the same time, and it's always when I just start the car in the morning. I suppose temperature can cause spikes, but the pressure is always lowering, never going up... I guess I'll have to call Tech.
Thanks guys |

Put nitrogen in them instead of air. Pressures fluctuate alot with O2

Every time you drive your tire pressure builds up quite a bit because the heat buildup of the rubber in the tires. This also causes the molecules in the rubber to enlarge causing the slight escapment of air between them, when it cools back down then your pressure will read a little lower than it did before. Like someone else stated if you put Nitrogen in them then the pressure won't build up as much and If I remember correctly Nitrogen molecules are larger than oxygen and will result less loss of pressure from heat cycling... Although Air is part Nitrogen there is not enough volume to make much difference, so pure Nitrogen is the way to go unless you want to keep close watch on your air pressures...

The pressure will fluctuate with temperature no matter what, air is 78% Nitrogen. 100% dry Nitrogen may be a "little" better.
It will make a difference what side the sun is coming from, and which tires are exposed to it's rays. Maybe that is why you are seeing a difference between the tires, if it is parked outside. Tire pressures should always be checked before being heated up from driving, or sunlight. |

You are supposed to check your tires when they are cold before you drive the car. The press will go up during driving because of heat.

I've had the same problem, but only with one tire. The other three seem to change pressure in unison, as does this one usually, but every now and then (1-2 week intervals) the one tire goes down 4-5 psi. I jacked it up, put a big pan of water under it and rotated the wheel, looking for bubbles, but no such luck. Gave it a visual inspection, didn't see anything. Weird... I can see all of them going down, or some random thing, but the same one again and again?
Guess I may need to have mine looked at, too. |

don't check your tires for a few days,to see if your tires are actually losing air.
if you indeed are losing presure,it has to be the rims or valve stems. |

Hard to judge real pressure
My pressure shows 36psi cold [recomended]
after they warm up it goes to 45psi, but remains constant. |

My Heritage Steel wheels do not leak a bit of air, in fact I had to take some air out when it got warm out this spring.
One of the reasons I like steel, that and strength, ALL my other cars with alloys leak air.
