Header and O2 question.

Ok folks, I have tried the search and didn't find anything about this so I'll ask.

From what I gather when you install headers there is a factory O2 sensor in the factory exhaust. What do you do with that sensor? Is it put into the new headers or where does it go? If you do not put the sensor in the new headers do you get the CEL coming on. Thanks

the factory emissions system has 4 O2 sensors, two on each side, one in front of the cats, and the other after the cats.

when you install headers, assuming you bought high flow cats with it, there will be 4 O2 bungs just like the stock exhaust. and the header kit most likely comes with a wire extension harness for the front O2s.

my ARH header kit came complete with everything. all i had to do is plug the O2s into their new location and use the supplied wire extension harness on the front O2s

Do you get a bunch of cabin noise from the LT headers? I haven't bought any yet just trying to do some research on what all I will need to do. I am hoping that Camaro Fest will give me some good ideas.

You can get a jacked O2 sensors for the rear to stop thr LT's from throwing a code. That's if you reluctant to tune it.

all honesty. this "drone" everyone talks about is whiney people complaining about hearing their engine. IMHO i would rather listen to the engine than the radio. i roll with the windows down and the radio at 5-10 in the city.

on those long highway trips, i keep the volume between 15-20 on the radio and i can't hear the exhaust... and i do not have any mufflers!

long tubes are the single greatest bolt-on performance upgrade to any car... get them if you crave performance!!!

ummm no.

your rear 02's check your cat efficieny. if you just throw a set of bad/good ones on there, it will still throw a "cat ineffiency" code. just throwing a bad set of 02 sensors will keep the o2 circuit code from going off.

If you get longtubes you have the following options

Front o2s:

Use oxygen sensor extentions (your longtubes should come with them, double check with your manufactor/dealer though. I know my kooks did)

Rear o2s:

Run high flow cats and run regular oxygen sensors

Run no cats and run "02 simulators" (these give the pcm a constant value to trick the pcm into thinking the cats are working, even if they aren't or are non-existant

Run no cats and have the rear o2 sensors tuned out (this will most likely void your warranty... check with your dealer on this)

The rear O2's have to "report" something to the PCM.

Do her up nice and get some Doug Thorleys shorties and Rock it out!!

Best of luck,
Ivan

No Not whining, just wanting the facts before I buy a set. My nephew has a 05 Mustang and is completely modded 1000 hp to the flywheel, but you can't ride in it, way too loud. I don't know all the mods he has a new engine, methanol injection kit, LT headers, no cats etc... It sounds like a NASCAR and is not a joy to ride in.

Just want to make sure what I buy I like because I am sure there is a "no return" policy and everything involved in the process, that's all
