Filling up gas tank

It doesnt happen all the time but sometimes when i go to fill it up i have to actually hold the nozzle up some because if not it will just keep shutting off is it just becauase the gas cap on the car is at a weird angle and the pumps dont like it?

Try slowing the flow just a little by releasing the the handle just a bit.

I suffer the same ignominy and annoyance. Angle of the dangle doesn't help,
nor does the flow speed.

Gas nozzles have a vent on them that allow the sensors in the nozzle to shut off the pump. When people over fill their cars, gas gets in this vent and gets stuck. This tricks the sensor into thinking the tank is full and shuts off. Some designs are better and has relocated the vent to a better location. If you are experiencing this issue, either go to another gas station or try a different pump at that gas station.
I have many issues with Costco/Sam's club stations and feel like an idiot trying to do the simplest of things like pumping gas into my ride..just have patience and keep it from sitting on the gas funnel when youre pumping and then when it gets near what you'd expect to fill up just stop and let the nozzle do the rest.

You do realize that Costco gets their gasoline at wholesale from whatever refineries are nearby to which they aquire it. Majority of the time that can be anything from SHELL to BP to MOBIL to CHEVRON. So technically its not low quality fuel by any means..besides I get the same mileage and results from Costco as I would anywhere else plus its cheaper.

i believe its the nozzle and not the car at all. i have not had that problem except once when my car salesman offered to fill my tank at the Shell gas station. no 93 octane was at the dealership. i have not been to Shell since then.

My dealership attempted to fix this problem but was unsuccessful. That's after the technician replaced several parts. Now I have two new issues: the black molding that covers up the mufflers was missing all of the retaining screws so it was barely hanging on (why the technician removed the screws, who knows) AND I have a loud thump/bang sound (like a bad strut) near the rear passenger side whenever I go over rough patches in the road. The car didn't make that terrible noise prior to taking it to the dealership. I already filed a complaint to the service manager.

Gas pump

I had this problem in CA for the first month or so. You have to push the pump nozzle in hard and make sure its seated. No problems since.

I've had the same problem. Usually I just change the angle.. However, my dealership produced a TSB and a diagram of how the gas tank is positioned. I'm afraid we are stuck holding the pump at an angle! LMAO

That is a pump issue. The pump has to detect the fumes coming back. they have a fume capture system that is more of a pollutant than the burning of gasoline. The amount of capture back depends on each state requirement. more in CA and MD than say NM. It is not necessarily a bad thing to hold the pump valve/nozzle so you do not get the overflow which can happen, even with the auto shut off.

Gas pump shutting off

I have a 2011 Camero in San Diego, CA and I have to hold the nozzle at the correct angle all the time to fill the tank otherwise it shuts off. This is very irritating!
