Best size tire for 17" SJM drag wheel?

I just placed my order yesterday for my 17" SJM/Bogarts and would like some direction on what would be the best tire size for me to go with. Something similar to the stock size? Smaller? I really don't know and could use some help. Thanks guys.

there are a lot of factors that determine your tire size.

Here's the first question... do you plan on doing gears on the car?

I'm not sure on the gears. At the rate I'm going I would say that they would be changed out but probably not anytime soon. So I should base my tires off the 3.27 gear in the A6

If you are asking about Brands, then MT would be my best bet.

I have tried Nitto, Hoosier, MH, MT...

Longest Life : Nitto
Best Hooking: Hoosier
Best Life/Hooking ratio: MT

( All DOT drag radials, if nittos are even considered as a proper drag radial )

If you are unsure of WHAT size, then you really amaze me buying drag wheels without knowing a bit of proper tire size haha...

Simply looking for opinions on 17" slick sizes. Nothing further. Not looking for brands or drag radials. The op is quite clear. Thank you.

There is no slick in 17" size...
largest rim slick is 16"

your only option for "slick" is the ET STREET NON RADIAL (couple lines thread) from MT which is a 26" diameter tire..
I never liked those, dont hook as good as the Radials, at least for me.

You should check the STREET RADIALS in soft compounds.. ET STREET II.. 26 and 28" diameters to choose from.

Depending on the power you are trying to hook and the gear you are or will run you should choose proper diameter.

They only 17" slick I have found so far is a 28" x 10" hoosier. The car makes 550/550 to the wheels, has the stock 3.27 gear and is an auto. I was just wondering if a shorter tire would be of any help. But if my only choice is that Hoosier, it really doesn't matter.

omg. you are totally right.. hoosier makes a proper slick in 17"

stock diameter is 28.7, a 28" hoosier will work fine.

Whats your trap speed, in what gear are you crossing the line at what rpm with what wheels?.

a 26" tire will make your gear feel shorter, increasing acceleration at the cost of top speed.

Someone told me.. Use the smaller tire you can hook on.

Sounds like it's gonna be a nice combo... Be sure and check back in after you get a few runs on them

if you want a bias ply, go with the hoosier 28x10 with your mods. the 26's wont have a big enough footprint... you will blows those off probably. that and hoosier > m/t. I would suggest into getting a set of gears though. I don't know the automatic transmission gears off the top of my head, so I can't tell you which ones would best suit you, I would say 4.10's though.

You will have more options on slicks if you go with a 16" wheel.

M&H and Hoosier both make slicks in diameters from 26-30" and tread widths from 8-12". I know its a little more work to run 16", just wanted to throw it out there.

Don, Steve from sjm advised me that the 16"s were having clearance issues at certain times, that's why I got the 17's. I even had the v6 brakes lined up. I think my car will do gd on a 17. It doesn't make the power you do. But time will tell.
