re:BP - Thanks a ton

Well,
The oil spill in the Gulf is going to severely impact high HP cars I fear. The backlash against offshore drilling (and this time, rightfully so) will drive the administration to a different energy policy. We all know what that did to cars in the 70s. Smoke 'em while ya got 'em.

What is everyone's thoughts on this?

I dont see it either. This was a tragic accident. It happens in any industry. Prices near me have dropped a few cents.

Just hope they get a handle on it quick ... If not the Gulf Coast beaches around here are gonna be a mess ... And really screw up the fishing and the price of seafood ... It already stinks when the sea breeze comes in off the Gulf ...

Do you work for Fox News or CNN?

Obama (while I'm not a fan of him) just approved more offshore drilling. Shit happens, everyone knows it, the oil can be cleaned up. Knee jerk reactions to stuff like this to change the entire energy policy aren't gonna happen, thats why they run the country and we don't.

Not to start an argument or demean anyone, but this is a selfish consideration... The tradgedy is the loss of life, and the environmental damage, not what is going to happen our driving habits.

I personally knew a couple of the guys on that rig... and the implied "OMG I wont be able to drive my Camaro" concept never entered my mind until it was brought up here... Ok, so what...

Environmental activist and legislators with no clue are the 2nd biggest force driving the price of oil. The biggest are the speculators that have nothing to do with the industry... We work under the most stringent guidelines of almost any industry... Unfortunately, when dealing with mother nature, nothing is foolproof. Do not blame BP, nor Transocean... Incidents and accidents do and will continue to happen. We try our best, but sometimes mother nature fights back and we loose... If your concerns are that BP screwed up, then you do not understand the industry... They are probably one of the leading safety companies in the world. They learned from a number of incidents in the 90's, mostly on land at refineries...Nothing is fool proof...as for the environmentalist, if you wanna start talking, then first start walking... These micro-mini death box's you drive do not qualify in my book. Where do the old batteries go, how much petroleum product is used to manufacture them...???? etc...

Think... homeland security act, no liquid bottles over three ounces, etc... Knee jerk reactions are the norm...

And for the RECORD...I'm a hard core Republican.

Sorry just a minor correction

No new offshore drilling will be authorized until authorities learn what caused the explosion of the Deepwater Horizon oil rig, an aide to President Barack Obama said Friday

I used to work the Gulf, I am currently in Brazil, working for Petrobras, but as I've told others, it's a huge world, but a very small oilfield... I know people from most every drilling company out there and probably from almost every service company as well...

Thanks for Your Consideration... If you spend any time out here, it's hard for something like this to not hit home...

For all those who don't see the connection between the future of offshore drilling and this spill (could be the worst environmental disaster in US history), try this quote on for size....

David Axelrod, the senior WH adviser, said that “no additional drilling has been authorized and none will until we find out what happened here.”

Good comments. Did mean to put 'driving' over loss of life. Clearly it was a disaster and a tragedy. However, that 'risk' was part of that job description.

The knee jerk reaction has yet to begin - disaster, accident etc. My point is - it will be a lightning rod for the administration.

Environmentally - this may be unrecoverable. Therein is a tragedy of many lifetimes. As a southerner with family in the Gulf Coast and lots of time in NoLa I am truly concerned about the industries affected by this.
