AAC Footwell lighting questions
What's the install like with these? Do you have to drill and tap it into something for them to work or what?
Also, what's the difference between the 12" and 15"? Why would you get one or the other?? |

Install was about 20 min. Tapped in to the dome light wire under the dash (see post #17 in link below for location). I have the 12" - lights up great. I just zip tied them up.

It is a pretty straight forward install. Not complicated at all.

I've never done any upgrades though, so I'm a little weary.
I looked at some peoples instructions and it looks like you have to tap into the dome light and such... Is there anyway to just install them under the footwell and have a separate switch? I don't want it tapped into the dome light. |

Sure you can just tap any hot wire and run the ground to the frame with a switch anywhere in that connection.

My drivers side footwell light isn't mounted in a location that is protected as well as the passenger side. It sticks out a little more than the passenger side. Has anyone else noticed this or found a place to mount them that is more protected.

I just did my footwell lighting last week. The hardest thing about the install was the awkward positions I had to contort my body into to work.... Aside from that it's a fairly straight forward install.
I chose to go the route of tapping into the dome light, however it left me wanting more. I decided to get the effect I wanted I needed to throw in an on/off/on switch and tie the lights to a spare fuse in the fuse box (method is detailed by Justin from AACstyle somewhere on the forums) as well so I could also turn them on while driving. The one problem that presents itself is that the LED strips are very bright and somewhat distracting, so I also ordered a dimmer switch from oznium.com so I could control the brightness and give it a more subtle effect. I haven't seen anyone do this with their footwell lighting so I'll be sure to post pictures and possibly videos when it's done. Probably a little more work than you're looking for but for just the standard install it's not too bad.
