Going to Test n Tune

Most likely weather permitting I will be taking my camaro to Test n Tune at Milan dragway this week.

This will be my first time ever racing at a track. I can get some decent starts on the street by just letting the clutch almost all the way out and then steadily mashing the throttle while releasing the clutch entirely.I am just hoping to run in the 12's but who knows...first time.

Do any of you guys power shift? I cant bring myself to do it. How bad will this hurt my time? I can shift good enough I suppose...but no powershifting.

Should I take some air out of the rear tires?

any tips are welcome...thanks

Yes this is a 12 second car, but I would be amazed you would get there on your first ever
time drag racing. Once you drag raced, you really find out what a driver mod is. Best of luck, I hope you do get 12's.

I have done quite a bit of racing in the past on closed streets and such. But never been to a track. I have always thought I was above average with a stick. But yeah the track will probably be a whole new ball game...I guess we will see

Just noticed your mods. I will still be surprised, but not as much.

Yeah I wouldn't think I could pull 12's stock on my first try. Just hoping maybe the mods can get me close if im not too horrible. Conditions should be decent I would think.

I'll be surprised if you don't crack the 12's. With those mods and some decent driving, should be a piece of cake.

Does anyone know how Milan runs compared to other tracks as far as times?

I cant believe I am going to tell you guys this LOL but what the hell.

So I still live at home and Im 25. I just got a great job about 1 year ago, but I am not full time yet so I am waiting to move out then.

The parents are flipping out about me going to the track for a lot of various reason. The car wont be covered, I still owe money on it (17k) etc. etc.

Obviously I could just say screw them and do it anyway...but I still live here and they feed me and I pay no rent
I usually respect their point of view...

So right now I am debating on what to do as ridiculous as it may sound.

I need some advice LOL

Well, if it bothers them that much, don't go. I bought a gtech so I could test my car as the nearest 1/4 mile strip is 100 miles away. I know its not the same, but it will at least help you practice your launches and compare results. Just have to find a safe place to do it, that can be difficult depending on where you live.

Keep working on them though, maybe you can convince them you ARE doing it the safe way and the right way by taking it to the track. Good luck.

like we said in the other thread... unles syour willing to take the risk to continue paying for something you have wrecked (God forbid) and can no longer use (no insurance on the track) then dont go ahead... at least when its fully yours you know your not going to have deductions from your pay each month and nothing to drive.. or even worse.. deductions for what you can drive and deductions for what you cant!

There's a thread on a company that provides racing insurance. Might be worth it, and it would be a reasonable compromise for you and your parents.
