Oil Temp gauge - low oil temp!
New to V8's, new to Chevy's.
Guess I never really had an oil temp gauge before either. Anyway, every time I start up the car after sitting for 4+ hours, the oil temp is at the minimum (photo attached) Is this normal? The car feels "rough" until the temp raises as well. I try to never jump on the gas until it's warmed up. I figured it might have had something to do with the weather as I got the car in Feb and it was still cold out. But now we've had patches of 70+ weather, and it's doing the same thing. Thoughts?? |

normal.
with so much aluminum, it's going to cool off to ambient fairly quick. Some of the older engines that were almost all cast iron use to hold heat for a long time. As long as it comes up to temp, above 200ish after some miles - 15 minutes or so, then it should be fine. If it never comes up, I'd think something in that guage circuit is bad. |

You wouldnt expect your oil to be over 100 degrees with your car setting at whatever outside or garage room temps would be do ya?

Yes, the temp. is going to be low until you warm everything up. Mine sits around 200 degrees similar to the coolant temp and trans temp, once I have run everything for 5 to 10 minutes. I wait until all temps are up and normal before getting on the gas hard.

Sounds normal, so long as it moves up to the normal range after 10 minutes. If it stays below 100 deg, then you probably have a problem with the gauge.
