SCT Tuner problems

I finished installing a maggie, when I attempted to install the
Magnuson tune the SCT tuner could not read the stock tune.
It showed a 1017 error message. Any ideas what this error
message means? I did have a Vector tune, but I reinstalled
the stock tunes before I used the SCT tuner. My car is an
automatice

Check to see if it's unmarried. You need to hook it up to the car and download the stock tune to the tuner first. Then select the pre-programmed tune which is the maggie tune. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the help, but the tuner still can not unlock the stock tune. I will have to
check with Vector to see if they can help.

Quinthawk,
I talked with our tuner and he said that from what he has seen that Vectors tuner leaves something in the ECU that prevents its maps from being read (even the "stock" reflash) and that even a dealership might not be able to reflash it back to a fully stock program. He recommends calling Vector to see what they say about unlocking the ecu so that our tuner will work with it.

I had a Vector tune on my car before I installed my E-Force S/C. I had no problem returning it back to stock and then putting on the SCT tune. But yes I would call Kirk he is awesome with customer service!!

Isn't this illegal for a tuner to lock a customer's ECU? Why the hell would a tuner do this to someone's property?

If so, I guess from now on, anyone who is getting a tune, better get a written confirmation from the tuner that there no lock BS is involved.

It absolutely Should be, and It Pisses me off to no end, I had a Trailblazer SS come in for some upgrades LT headers and a Tune, I went to read the PCM and it was locked, this customer had no Knowledge of any thing being done to this vehicle before since he had just bought it used, turns out it had a Vendors tune in it.

I guess some Tuners feel the need to Lock the ECM so other Qualified tuners Can't read and see what they do in They're tune, which is a Joke among the tuning community, the truth is there is no Black Magic in Tuning if your a True Tuner.

I have never, nor will I ever Lock my Tunes.

I sent Kirk a PM regarding this post and the other one.

Hopefully he can clarify.

Definitely not something that is illegal to do and definitely something some tuners feel the need to do to ensure their customer isn't going to alter the tune because they feel they read a couple of internet web forums and are now officially tuners.

I do disagree though with completely locking yourself out of the tune. The end user should have the ability to flash back and forth between the stock file and the modified file. You shouldn't be able to edit the tuners final tune without a good explanation imho.

I can see the argument go both ways. Regardless though, we don't lock our customers out of their tunes either. We do however charge double if you screw something up after "we told you so" jk

Kirk at Vector emailed me an updated version of the software that will hopefully
allow the Magnuson tune to be installed.
